jim carroll was an inspiration to me when i was still in High school. dirty,crude & a big mess with a scary look. saw this legend around the east village streets 3 or 4 times in my travels but never stopped him to say hi. I'm from the type that doesn't like to annoy "stars" or boost their ego's ! He also had somewhat of a hit song with "all the people who died" about his lost friends. I agree that his POET status helped revive it (poetry)for the future newbees & one of my all time favs poets karen finley (thankfully she still walk amoung us living)
