Re: Tom Murrin AKA Alien Comic

Chi Chi ·
Thank you for starting this topic Hatches.. Tom Murrin / The Alien Comic was our own Lipstick Traces from the Dadaists, a direct line from the Cabaret Voltaire to the stages of 8 BC, LaMama, Jackie 60, PS 122 and everywhere that really mattered in between. If you knew Tom or had ever seen one of his performances, you will know what a loss this is. From the entire Jackie Factory family, deepest condolences to all of his many fans, family and friends.

Before ever knowing of Tom's contribution to performance art, I first met him as my neighbor when I lived on Ridge street with Faux Pas yeargo ago. Always smiling, always encouraging, always making the effort to support our fledgling careers. A wonderful man. Thru the years I learned of his performances and had a great conversation with Penny Arcade about him and what he gave to the downtown performance scene that soon travelled all across university campuses and was soon called "performance...

Alien Comic was a brand name decades before art marketeers and every aspiring stage denizen wanted to be one.For a long period of time it seemd you could not pick up a local publication with event listings and not find Tom there. That is the mark of a true creative resource, just his ubiquitessness, and it reflected the tremendous output of the fellow, the widespread respect he had built and the eagerness of the audience to want more and more. Also, now, it is like we have to remind...

And under that most classic portrait, had to add this photo from the last time Todd worked with us - as the "general" of our huge production for the opening of Barneys San Francisco in September 2007. Had the great great pleasure of spending almost a week with Todd on the fittings, costuming and everything else - just had no idea it would be our last..

I am quite stunned by the sudden passing of my Blacklips confrere, Todd, AKA Lulu. She was a true original-- drop-dead gorgeous in drag, with an impeccable comedic timing which she really honed during her Blacklips tenure-- not to mention her wig-styling & makeup skills... Really one of the best-- if not THE best. I can still recall, with a smile, her portrayal of the dissipated and jovial Queen Louise XI in both "The Red Shoes" and "Hunch" (Blacklips version of The Hunchback Of Notra...

In our Nightworld, there are two kinds of artists - those who labor over their own creations, and then those who add their talents to the creation of something larger than themselves. Todd was as brilliant as they come, but his art was in service to the collective, to the creation of club/art/style movements. That is why so many of you won't know his name, but you know his work. I'd like to point out his enormous contributions to the following over two decades - BoyBar (three of his Miss...

She was a woman who understood the ways of men. She knew the proper way to light a cigar. She ruled with a firm leather gloved hand. She cried at true beauty. She wrote words on paper that could make you shiver. She knew when enough was enough. She was fearless in the face of intellect. She had a tender heart behind her harshest barb. She was loved by everyone who waited patiently to see behind the veil. She knew she was part illuminati and part pagan. I will love and miss her forever. Rest...

Terence left this Earth this past month, I am deeply saddened that she is now gone from it. When I met Terence she was a very serious, striking and commanding person so I was certainly intimidated, it was obvious I was dealing with an intellectual so I needed to be at my best behavior and my most attentive in her presence. She was an accomplished writer, a luminary in the New York underground, and a maestra of an art I'd only read about; she could make the most debauched intellectual blush...

Last night I was out in the snow in Union Square with the puppy - the city was quiet and dusted with white glitter and as I was leaving the park I thought - you see, there is still magic here. Returning home I got the messages about D'Drennan, one of the most magical souls I have ever known in this lifetime. His enormous gifts and big heart added immeasurably to the entire MOTHER era - who else would we have called upon to craft Merlin's sword for the turn of the century Click + Drag? As so...

What we know so far about the circumstances around his death. He was at Burning Man, which he looks forward to all year. He fell and hit his head, thought he was okay, then a few hours later went into a seizure and died. This is being looked into by the Reno police. I was just talking with Paula, the Swedish Housewife, about the logistics of that, a dead body at Burning Man. We agreed that Adam would want to go in The Burn at the climax.

What a great guy and a terrible shock. I just saw him at Motherfucker recently and he was as warm as ever though I hadnt seen him in years. I remember his party at Jackie 60 for a gay clone parody record he did - it was very funny and so was his show. One night we had a Jack Daniels drinking contest and for 2 little guys we really put it away. Condolences to his extended family here and to his blood family wherever they may be.

Other than through his glorious talents and that those who care for this gem of a man are certainly a reflection of his beauty, it is through these Boards and a few nights out over the years that I know him. Thus we have a premature darkening of a wondrous light in this city. My heart goes out to all of Adam's family and friends, may he rest in peace.

Stinger, Thank you for remembering that! The night was called "Up All Night, Can't Make The Gym" (named after one of Adam's records). It was Adam's reaction to the shirtless gay drug addicted clones from Chelsea. The stage set was the David Barton Gym locker room. There even was (if I say so myself) a genius method go go performance by David Barton and I. Adam performed "Up All Night". It was such a fun night. Luckily it was captured for the Jackie 60 Movie. I saw some rough cuts of it, it...

I, too, am stunned and shocked by the news. Adam and I first met when I was doing "Disco Interruptus" in 1990 at the Roxy... he was working a daytime office position there, just out of college. He was a brilliant, intelligent man-- a great DJ and musician, a wonderful writer, a perennial wit and he truely had a heart of gold. He would pop up in the oddest of places and at the most diverse parties and had the sharpest of minds--nothing escaped his notice. I always enjoyed any few minutes of...
