Just wanted to thank Bill Brewster for sending us this note about the passing of Francis Grasso, 52, who is generally regarded as the first modern DJ. His club The Sanctuary helped define late-sixties(!) gay disco and he pioneered the whole shamanistic tradition of DJs taking the crowd on a trip.. If you don't know Bill, he wrote the amazing "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life:The History of the Disc Jockey" which is filled with amazing stories including Francis Grasso's. i saw a program on Burning Man (discovery civilization) tuesday night. they followed three young women from texas to the desert. the women didn't understand the burning of the man (not sure i do either) but it looked gorgeous. i love the people and the freedom of a spiritual hippy love fest. i'm not saying that i'm fancy but i don't think i could sleep in a tent for more that one night. the RV looked so inviting. we need luxury or as much as we can bring with us. the program got me very...

Alot of you Jackie 60 regulars might remember my friend Jane (from the BBC). She was the one in the DJ Booth always with some piece of Latino eyecandy or some exotic Arabian knight. She would usually be the one reaping the benefits of late-night "Party Naked". I recently found out that she keeps a journal of her (s)exploits. I read one chapter about Redline Richie that was incredible. She also has one on Flowrider. I've asked her to start posting here. You will drool! One of her obsessions...

When I was 13, my mother and father took a day trip to Ohio to see my uncle and my brother closest to me in age was suppose to keep an eye on me while they were away. He did a really good job by getting me totally stoned. Later in the evening he had his girlfriend named Andrea come over, and they went downstairs in our family room where my brothers best friend Chris and I could hear her getting the life fucked out of her from where we were upstairs in the livingroom. Remember too that last years may pole was forked into 2 points at the top....very eerie. It was so great to see someone experience Beltane for the first time. I know last year was just as magical for me. It truly is a recharge for me, creatively, spiritually and physically. I was told by someone last year that you get something different every year. I can see it now. This year was just as beautiful, strange, carefree, emotional, relaxing, exhausting, scary, stupid, and profound as last year...

There's so much to share, which will come in time, but a quick note on DJ Sammy Jo planting seeds for a Universal harvest-- who knew he was such a skilled gardener: Pickles managed to filter "Edge of Seventeen" through his speakers in the very early morning hours, perhaps precisely one week before The Battle of A Thousand Stevies. That moment still pulses through me as I prepare for Friday night. He and Rob electronically channeled so many of our faerie friends into that party-- we welcomed...

One of the many other memorable moments was the night we all witnessed the sacrifice of Justin's original Kiki dress. It was a cinematographer's wet dream. It was a dark and rainy night; we (Pickles, Granite, Garrett, Denise and Francis, Goneaway, Scooter) went all the way out to memorial ridge for the beginning of the ritual. All of us crouched down in a circle with black umbrellas, granite created a ceremonial circle of rocks and candles. We all tried to keep the candles lit as Granite...

We were asked to host a night at a local gay club here in Cincinnati about a year after Zazoo was "born." we agreed, but only on our terms... What did this mean? Well... 1. Good music. 2. No crappy Drag Queens badly lipsyching to 3 year-old songs. 3. "Freaks" got in free They reluctantly agreed to...
