For over 12 years Afrokinetic has been connecting the musical dots via afro-rhythm. It is the rhythmic foundation of nearly every urban dance-music genre known to man, and it has given us the flexibility to grow and change with time. Historically, soul, jazz and funk gave rise to disco and hip-hop, which in turn influenced the creation of house music. Detroit techno came next… and the evolution continues to this day. Being native New Yorkers, and children of the Golden Era, house music and hip hop shaped our fundamental relationship with dance music and EDM. We believe simply that, if music is soulful and makes you want to move, then it will work on our dance floor.

This philosophy enables us to be eclectic and because of that, we continue to attract an open minded, diverse group of dancers, music lovers and tastemakers. We have had the pleasure of holding residency at some of NYC’s most revered venues and we are blessed, as we have come to know some of the worlds most influential DJ’s, producers, musicians and artists, in addition to the most amazing party-people on the planet.

In years past guests have included Osunlade, Rich Medina, Mark De Clive-Lowe, Nickodemus, Tortured Soul, Bonobo, Wunmi, Vikter Duplaix and the list goes on. This year we are happy to welcome back, the one and only, Brooklyn’s own... DJ SPINNA!

DJ Spinna is something of an anomaly in music. A humbling example of what it takes to truly succeed within the framework of multiple fields. With a steadfast work ethic, an obsessively extensive vinyl library and the willingness to pursue the full extents of his roots (Funk, Soul R&B and Jazz), foundation (Hip-Hop) and future (Electronic/Dance music) without any restraints. A cornerstone of Hip-Hop’s late 90’s indie-uprise, DJ Spinna made much of his first impression on listeners as the musical background of his group The Jigmastas (having released an impressive slew of 12” singles on his then self-run label Beyond Real during this time) as well as providing the canvats for an array of that era’s lyrical giants including Eminem, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and De La Soul. Help us celebrate 12 Years of remarkable music, beautiful people and our shared experiences on the first Saturday in August.
