HOWL! HAPPENING OPENS
The exciting new East Village gallery/performance space HOWL! HAPPENING at 6 East 1st Street is finally opening next weekend on 3/29/15. (THE JACKIE FACTORY is collaborating on this effort along with other HOWL ARTS/ HOWL FESTIVAL folk, and will curate selected performance events there beginning in early Summer.) We are delighted to invite you to the first show, dedicated to East Village Artist Pioneer ARTURO VEGA. We hope to see you at this important new clubhouse in the weeks, months and years to come. AN ARTURO VEGA PROJECT
"In a time of profound aesthetic nihilism, Arturo Vega managed to deliver his critique of society as an act of indubitable optimism and love. He could curse the world for all its evils with a smile, damn the whole thing as an act of unmitigated love. Vega did so in his art because he had a poet’s sense of semiotics wrapped up in a radical's heart of abiding social empathy."
Howl! is pleased to welcome you to the opening of a new gallery and performance space—Howl! Happening—with Arturo Vega American Treasure. Like the neighborhood in which it was born and the Howl! Festival that began it all, Howl! Happening is a space of untamed creativity and a place to build a strong global arts community.
What is a Happening? A game, an adventure, a number of activities engaged in by participants for the sake of playing.
—Alan Kaprow, artist
Show runs through 4/25. Gallery open Wednesday-Sunday, 11 AM - 6 PM.
