These photographs were taken on February 27, 2001 at Don Hills. It was a 'Drag Carnival Mardi Gras' celebration, which luckily continued after the closing of Mother. This particular evening was a tribute to and remembrance of the late Lee Brewster, well known for his 5,000 square ft. superstore 'Lee's Mardi Gras Boutique' on West 14th Street. He was affiliated with the Mattachine Society, was a fundraiser and financed legal challenges in the interest of gay rights and loved to dress men as women with a seemingly unparalleled passion.

To learn more about Lee you can read this story about him that ran in the New York Times:

For me this was another excellent evening for photographing the Mother All-Stars who turned it out for Lee.
