TRINKETS
BY PAUL E. ALEXANDER

From THE JACKIE FACTORY Summer newsletter:

Frequent JACKIE FACTORY collaborator PAUL ALEXANDER steps out Big Time and we couldn't be more proud! The TRINKETS playwright and director is a NYC nightlife legend most notably known as "The Voice" of our 1990s performance art-dance party JACKIE 60.

opal-snatched-2017

At Jackie 60 he honed his vocal MC and performance skills and began a long run of underground dance singles, including our theme track THE JACKIE HUSTLE. He gained international success with the dance pop trio THE ONES, best known for their #1 Dance/ #7 Pop hit FLAWLESS. His signature speaking style, long copied and sampled on dozens of dance hits, is part of dance club herstory, and this new musical play marks an important new chapter for Paul.

TRINKETS is an original musical play set in NYC during the 1990s. "It tells a story of a group of drag and transsexual prostitutes, who work the streets of the meatpacking district. This fantastical story taken from reality shows a moment in the growth of the LGBT community which is often overlooked. During this time, acceptance of this fringe group by the 'straight world' was often little to none; so many drag and transsexual females were given no opportunity for real employment. In order to make a living, sex work was a common choice. The audience is introduced to a moment in the lives of an ensemble of characters in a story highlighting the tragedies and hardship faced by these brave and defiant individuals. We witness them coming together as a small community to do the right thing."

We urge you to come out full force and support one of our most enduring stars, and his fabulous cast including HONEY DAVENPORT, MERCEDES TORRES, KEVIN AVIANCE, JAY KNOWLES, ANTYON LEMONTE, KITA UPDIKE, CELSO SATORI, TONY STINKMETAL and many more. Its a family affair with STEVEN PERFIDIA, KIRHAM & ALPANA BAWA sharing the all-important Wig Design credit and musical compositions by LAURENT CAILLAT, ELI ESCOBAR, RAMI RAMIREZ, KEVIN AVIANCE and URI DALAL. 24 BOND ARTS CENTER is resident in one of our favorite hometown haunts, the GENE FRANKEL THEATRE, and is the new community theater organization helmed by GAIL THACKER.
