Acclaimed Seattle performance artist DINA MARTINA makes a highly anticipated return to New York with DINA MARTINA: SOFT PALATE, FALLEN ARCHES for a limited engagement beginning September 22 at The Cutting Room. After attaining cult status in her native town of Seattle and in Provincetown, Martina's official New York premiere in 2005 sold out in minutes. Her follow-up show, Sedentary Lady, left jaded New York audiences (including John Waters, Whoopi Goldberg, John Cameron Mitchell, Law & Order's S. Epatha Merkerson, "Peace Mom" Cindy Sheehan, LOGO's Jason Bellini, Tony winners Jefferson Mays & Cady Huffman, Pulitzer Prize winners Doug Wright, Tony Kushner and Michael Cunningham) stunned and clamoring for more.
Now she's back with DINA MARTINA: SOFT PALATE, FALLEN ARCHES, an all-new night of unique entertainment that assaults the senses like no other performance. This surreal new show features Martina's signature blend of peculiar music, stupefying comedy and bizarre performance that been described as "a train wreck in heels", "like Vegas on crack" and "one of the best nightmares you'll ever have." The show also features a guest appearance by Dina's adopted daughter Phoebe.
DINA MARTINA was conceived in 1989 by Seattle performer Grady West. Dina's shows have been presented in Seattle at venues including On The Boards, Re-bar, The Jewelbox Theater and Experience Music Project as well as in cities including Provincetown, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Portland and San Francisco. Martina has also shared the bill with acts such as Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, Nina Hagen and The Village People. He is the recipient of two Footlight Awards from The Seattle Times (1999 & 2004) and a 1997 nominee for a Seattle Stranger Fringe Theater Award for Best Solo Show.
DINA MARTINA: SOFT PALATE, FALLEN ARCHES runs Friday, September 22 – Saturday, October 7, on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm.
