There have been several dogs stolen in the EV lately, all left tied up outside of stores. This is part of a larger wave of dog thefts in the city this year. PLEASE help repost this flier and BEWARE!

They're going after the low-end establishments that have less resources to combat raids and that are much more vulnerable to being shut in the face of heavy fines. 2. 40,000 cops in the city + historically low crime rate = a lot of cops with less to do, sooooo, why not start looking for something to do, like harrassing bars. The people who have started renting in the building I'm in near C are now 30ish types who are just taking rooms for the weekend. They don't work, and just want a place in the EV to party on the weekends. At, like, $1,400 a month for a tiny 500 sq ft room, it is totally the idleclass.

Well yes but S'tan, the boozy upchuck smell of the EV is leavened with, like, patchouli and bad designer brand perfumes. I like what hatches mentions about the mega-chain outlets being magnets for lawbreakers and contributing to the general social breakdown. Some city official (despite the obligatory Wall Mart and Chilli's payola they must have taken) should really start a protest and re-zoning referendum. This is a great topic. We just saw a clip on "Veselka" last night on TV and have never been. A lot of the other shops mentioned in the segment had closed (Love Saves The Day, and the video store next to Trash)so we hoped it was still open. We're SO there next time we're in the EV. We found a really interesting case of a group taking this idea one step further. A group called CarrotMob who do "Reverse Boycotts" on businesses. They did one here in Park Slope for family owned Tarzian Hardware...

I went to WILD PROJECT twice this week and both shows, Crazy and Amaaaazzzzzing!!! (I'm sorry about my poor writing that isn't good enough to express how great they were.. I hope someone post about those shows..) Just passed so many "ice cars" on our walk around EV / St. Marks Church. On the 10th street side of the church towards 3rd avenue it seemed like alot of BIG tree branches came down, or several trees. Hope no-one was underneath..EV is still incredibly pretty though as long as you don't look down!

This is SO not correct - Steve Cannon is an EV gem and so is A Gathering of the Tribes. NOT EVERYTHING in the EV has to ALWAYS be about $ or we will have no EV left. I think many of you here have been hitting on an important point, -the balance between providing a way for the performers to present their work to a wider public while still feeling that the event is controlled by our interests yet still 'open' enough, just enough, to the straight world so that the khaki arrivistes feel secure about attending and getting some exposure to the 'underground'. This is a real old American cultural tradition that goes way back to the founding days of New Orleans...

That day, I could check in as press and an event staff escorted me to the area in front of the stage, but right after he was left, a security kicked me out saying I didn't have a press sticker on me. I wasn't given it somehow so tried to explain about it to him, but that beef just kept barking "Out! Out! Out! ... ", and it took me for a while to get back.
