one would enter through the long skinny bar all lined up with the beautiful girls and their long legs checking out the new action coming in the door. So exciting! Never were the ladies at a t-bar so alluring. Then to the disco back room and then turn the corner to the main trapeze disco. it was the site of the original, and new wave remake of the Peppermint Lounge. There was always something ready willing and able to happen.

That was the best Club 57! I did one of my very first "performance art pieces" there. I was in art school (School of Visual Arts) at the time. I hooked up two big BORROWED tv sets to all of this electronic equipment that Laurie Anderson loaned me (God bless her). It was all choreographed to a disco drum beat with this drummer guy that I met in the park. He now has gone on to drum with hundreds of DJs in hundreds of clubs but believe me, that was the first time. He really didn't understand my...

Everything was perfect; who could wish for much more (besides more of our friends in the same room)? There's a courtyard bar that's just so tropical and nice. Al; the nookie happens in the cubicals. The Thai have this modesty thing. OK the Palladium, before it became a glitz pallace it did have some great rock shows. Like Nick Lowe or The Plasmatics One night Wendy O blasted the hood off a White Caddy and almost took out the people in the first five rows when it landed in "way" the wrong place. It being punk times they loved it and screamed for more. Needless to say Wendy never quite topped that moment. Back in the day (1991-ish) for a while I frequented the Palladium on Tuesday nights for the Love Machine. It was really fun. Lahoma Van Zandt was the hostess and she used to fall down all the time. She was anorexic-thin and sometimes she smelled kinda funky. I also think Lee Chappell was involved somehow also, I don't remember who the DJ was but it was someone famous I think. Girlina was one of the drag regulars and there was some queen who would show up in Queen Elizabeth the First drag.

The Granddaddy of all horrible club fires occurred in Boston at the Coconut Grove in 1942, killing 492 people. The fire was started by someone simply lighting a match in order to screw in a lightbulb. Most of the victims died from smoke inhalation, though locked exits were a factor. If such a tragedy can be caused by a match, how could anyone even dream of pyrotechnics? I have always been opposed to them, and still am to this day. The room was too hot, Daddy was having a great time, the Empress was in fine form, Jessica, Dirty Martini and Lavinia trooped hard, the crowd went bats for Debravation, but why did at least ten people ask me if I knew where to get some "pills"? London doesn`t seem to get the new burlesque, as fixated as the crowd was on the stage they forgot how to applaud. At least the drinks weren`t too overpriced and they did pour deep ones.
