Re: Todd Tomarrow

Chi Chi ·
In our Nightworld, there are two kinds of artists - those who labor over their own creations, and then those who add their talents to the creation of something larger than themselves. Todd was as brilliant as they come, but his art was in service to the collective, to the creation of club/art/style movements. That is why so many of you won't know his name, but you know his work. I'd like to point out his enormous contributions to the following over two decades - BoyBar (three of his Miss...

Re: Sex With Taxi Drivers part 2

daddy ·
I have no memory what-so-ever of getting home from Cheezwhiz last night. I understand Justin Bond put me in a cab and told the driver where I lived. Today I noticed that I spent a total of 2 dollars last night. I remember one dollar went to tip Sweetie, One went to tip Bianca Leigh. (I guess I must have stiffed Rose). So the big question on my mind today is... How did I pay the cab driver? And why do I smell like samosas? I know I didn't eat at "Rose Of India" last night. We had a delicious...

It seems there are a lot of people out there who are into dressing up as dolls or anime characters. Then there are these lycra fetishists who like to wear Leigh Bowery-esque faceless outfits. Here is a designer in Russia who makes these amazing monochromatic creations. I predict this will be the new club look of 2002. Skirtman ·
Ah, Tota Leigh, you seem to be under the impression that I am trying to look feminine, or to pass. Nope, I just like wearing skirts and heels. I am unashamedly male, and rather like the look. Minerva's comment that "it's twisted and wrong... and fun" somewhat summarizes my attitude as well. I just wear skirts because it's fun. If it ceases to be fun, I'll quit doing it. Dale

ummm, what an exciting topic! I think Dale rocks, as I've said. Anyone with the balls to do that during these times - to express themselves so triumphantly and unapologetically - gets my respect. Isnt this totally (!) about that and not about whether or not you would wear the look? I dont think Ms. Leigh really thought Dale was real, or she wouldn't have been so mean. Although I too would like a gander at her supposedly fierce look. Some people dont know how to post their pictures, as I've...

Re: RIP, VIP

Miss Understood ·
I don't know if any of you remember him. He was a British club kid/artist who spent some time in NY a few years ago, around the time Susanne Bartsch got married. He had skulls built into the sides of his shoes, as well as on his headpiece. He told me he'd been a friend of Leigh Bowery's. Well, anyway, a British DJ told me he died recently. I was so sorry to hear about it, he was a very sweet guy.

Re: Party Monster - Michael Alig

Miss Understood ·
Bridgette, I can totally understand why you'd be interested in the 80's/90's NY club scene. There was a lot of excitement, color, and creativity. What I find unfortunate is how much credit for this is being given to Michael Alig. The whole "Club Kid" thing was really an extension of what was first being done in small East Village Venues such as the Pyramid. Flloyd, Sister Dimension, Lahoma, Olympia, and many other freaks were doing their thing way before Disco 2000. When the small venues...

Re: Jackie 60 FURTHER in London Sept. 20

Chi Chi ·
Seven my love - I never saw you again that nite - we hid out in Debbie's room after and had several of Lavina's delicious cigarettes... Are you in Bosnia now? I absolutely adore London, lifelong, and for whatever reason, the feeling seems mutual. Yes, the people don't clap, but they come up after with their eyes shining and tell you things like - "You are a credit to all womanhood." Though my fondest London memory wasnt the show at all, but hanging with Asbestos Pestle from The Beautiful...

Re: Lady Hennessy Brown

Wisco ·
Weird--a passing mention of someone who's most likely Lady Hennessy Brown is in this current New York Magazine article . Here's the quote: When I arrived in New York on Valentine's Day, 1988, I felt like the family pet that accidentally gets left behind but inexplicably finds its way across thousands of miles to turn up on the doorstep one day, exhausted, a little worse for wear, but so happy. I knew exactly one person who lived here, and the first thing she did was take me to some scary...

Why would you leave drugs out 'in plain view' when the police are knocking on your door. That is really too bad. Alligator, it does sound like someone ratted him out. I was just enjoying his interviews last night in "The Legend of Leigh Bowery"... my thoughts even then, sometimes it doesn't pay to live too long. When I was looking for space in NYC which now seems like a long protracted nightmare version of "NO EXIT" by Sartre... I found a fantastic place on a block between Center and...

Re: What a wonderful night! (reviews of NOTS 17)

Chi Chi ·
Thanks to everyone who came out - and turned it out - so splendidly last night for NOTS 17. Transitions are always difficult and the night was not without its glitches, but overall it seemed like a step up. The tech staff - indeed the entire staff - of Hiro was really on point, and that helped so much. Performance high points pour moi? Justin Bond tore the roof off, and Nicole Nicks' farewell performance to "Edge of Seventeen" could not have been more superb. The tryptch of heavy hitters...

From an interview between Gaga and Debbie where Debbie speaks on Mother and her song 'Mother'......... LG: So I was going to ask you, what is the song "Mother" about? DH: "Mother" is about the club that was originally called Jackie 60. A lot of people went there, like Leigh Bowery. It was such an important part of my life — for entertainment, for joy, for friends, for distraction, for creativity. When it closed, I just felt so lost. I think the only time that I felt more lost was when Andy...
