Re: Can We Build a Less Prejudiced TG Sense of Community?

Stacy Amber ·
All I can do is nod in agreement and say "so well stated." I think I know what you mean, Sweetie, about not having a focused point, but I think that there is one there somewhere. This is a difficult topic to really tie together for some reason. I obviously have a lot of mixed feelings about it. Perhaps it's a flaw of character on my part, but I still haven't much sympathy or patience for anyone who is scared to death to show their colors in this world. Maybe that's where support is sorely...

I somehow missed the advent of bathroom cam so I did not know it was in the upstairs bathroom. I was attending the marvelously produced and realized Jackie Awards I think in 98 and there was an award announced for the best bathroom cam performance. Now I had gotten up to no good once or three times in the downstairs chambers and went into full panic mode, Absolutely terrified I would see myself projected on the piece of foam core Flavine was holding on stage. (My finest moment was with a...

The new book is fun. It's alot like "The Witching Hour". (my fave) It has ghosts, witches and spooks as well as vampires! The main character has gay sex with himself and has panic attacks. It has New Orleans, Julien Mayfair, The Talamasca, Lestat, Mona Mayfair, an ancient Italian vampire, Rowan Mayfair, Michael Curry and did I mention that the main character has gay sex with himself?

Re: Nightclub Disasters

The Granddaddy of all horrible club fires occurred in Boston at the Coconut Grove in 1942, killing 492 people. The fire was started by someone simply lighting a match in order to screw in a lightbulb. Most of the victims died from smoke inhalation, though locked exits were a factor. If such a tragedy can be caused by a match, how could anyone even dream of pyrotechnics? I have always been opposed to them, and still am to this day. Though fire-eating can be safer and more easily contained, it...

Anna Nicole ·
Lets face it... for anyone who remembers the days after 9-11 here in NYC.. they sealed off ALL bridges and tunnels and we were all just 'sitting targets' here in Manhattan. I think - like EVERYTHING - in this country ... the media like to whip everyone up into a frenzy and its SO easy to get caught up in this particular issue .. while we as Manhattanites laughed off the Janet Jackson tit media madness, or the Sniper killer shooter fears of the south... this particular frenzy triggers our...

Re: The Motherboards Remembers 9/11/2001

Anna Nicole ·
I loved that S'tan... thanks for sharing I think one of the most upsetting sight were the hours after 9/11 - First the panic that there was more to come, then the sheer chaos of the people rushing around to hospitals, posting flying looking for loved ones they truly believed had made it to hospitals. Tragic. The way Union Sq was transformed with endless candles, posters, flyers and friends and family searching for loved ones. Then there was that acrid smell and dust- I remember walking...

Re: What a wonderful night! (reviews of NOTS 17)

daddy ·
Well, I've been talking to LOTS of NOTS people and everyone seems to like The HIRO Ballroom for Stevie. Yes, the drink prices are a little higher and the bartenders were not my favorite bartenders in the world... but in general the staff, tech, dressing rooms and the shear size of the space makes it a winner. No place will be perfect but people seemed to think this was a step up for NOTS. Personally, I like it when you cram 800 people in a room that holds 200 people but that's just me.

i'm so heartbroken about this. crushed doesn't even begin to describe the feeling of loss, devastation. and i didn't even know any of this till a few days ago. i've been so busy with my own personal crap (elderly dying family members and my own health issues) i haven't even been reading the newspapers many days. and i've been out of the downtown/club kid/party scene for some years, so i'm no longer close to anyone who would have told me this terrible news. i've known and loved dean since he...

Okay, I need to vent if I'm going to get any sleep tonight. The remains of the waning "Circut" crowd has descended upon Provincetown this week, unfortunately! Seeing as I work in a local club, I cannot avoid interacting with this glaringly repellent group of people. I feel like I am being SWALLOWED UP BY A VENUS FLY TRAP ON STEROIDS. And not in a good way. I'm working the door, just checking that everyone entering has their wristband. An honest job. Doing so I have encountered every single...

Yesterday morning I spent from 7am until 8am on the phone with US travel agents who were just utterly hopeless. My hotel had lost power again so I thought I would walk up the road to the larger Pegasus hotel (the hotel where they found the dead cricket manager!). I popped inside and collected e-mail ...which they charged me $5 US !for (cheeky bastards). Then walked up to the air Jamaica office, being ever so careful to step over the power lines that were on the floor and the many downed...

Ok, so I think I'm finally beginning to feel at home here in BCN. I have to admit when I first arrived I was in a bit of a panic. Like "What the hell were you thinking?" kind of stuff. But I've managed to find my supermarket, my morning coffee and pastry place, and the nearest kfc so I'm much better. Friday night my friend Keyan asked to play a mini set at his friend's magazine party which was a blast. The magazine is a quaterly showcase of about 30 new artists. Amanda was the covergirl for...

It's not a fear of performing." -Belzy 1. I don't even want them breathing my air. and 2. It only happens in claustrophobic situations like inside...

There is a list server for Tom Waites fans called Raindogs. Here is a posting from ground zero. Sorry for mass mailing this but I've been telling my story so much I figured this will save me telling it a few dozen more times. Firstly, if anyone was there or had loved ones there I hope that you and yours are okay and (physically at least) unscathed. Sitting in the back room ... wedged between my make-up mirror and the ever-glowing monitor ... putting swipes, dashes and dots of shadow on my eyes in anticipation of high glamour and sweating it all off in a few short hours with the rest of the over-heated She-Devils ... a newsflash comes running down the hall in the form of my naked and hairy boyfriend telling me the electricity has gone off in parts of lower manhattan ... I smile -- sometimes I just can't help myself -- when I see a...

This starts in reply to those who wondered about my avatar. I am unashamed to admit it is not my creation. I found it trying to find unrelated topics while net surfing. As always, I am fascinated by those who are the creative types, able to think up variations of movement, sound, and visualization. Unfortunately, I am equally stumped when asked to show something of my own. I attended Interlochen Arts Academy for high school, and came to New York for Juilliard, all for dance. Even then, I...

Re: Blackout!

That was my favorite sign during the dramatic blackout which my deli, with their gasoline powered generator managed to stay open, had at the entrance and above the cash registers. However, I did manage to get some coffee next store at the White Furniture Cafe. However, in seemingly true NYC fashion, downtown west of Broadway, power was restored in the early afternoon, but for those of us across and east of Broadway, we had no power until 9:10pm last night. After my initial panic when the...

Hatches: Great image, you in class, electrified by this new weird world of poetry. Stacy: yes, run out and see it and let's compare notes! Tonya: Gosh! I think you do have a lot of it right on despite having read it long ago. As I mentioned earlier, I was obsessive when it came to Plath. Now, I have a healthy fascination. I still have an entire shelf in my bookcase in my room devoted just to Sylvia: all of her poems, the bell jar, several (5 or 6) biographies, a couple of editions of her...
