While still living in DC in the early 90s, Split: Portrait of a Drag Queen played at the American Film Institute at the Kennedy Center, and I went to see the film, but not knowing much about it other than it was about a drag queen, I dragged my friends to come with me. Well, we all loved the movie, and I was fascinated with her oh-so-glamorous life (or so it appeared on celluloid), yet throughout the story the theme was her rising up and above any perceived pain or misery. Being a showgirl,...

It was a very cute party! Pink Martini had a ball (and quite a few pink martinis). Julie Atlas Muz wow'd 'em with her talents as did Jessica Rabbit and Vangeline Domination. Hunter James and Pirate Steve gave gorgeous black tail & top hat go go. The Empress Chi Chi did a reading of her ode to New Orleans, "The Empress Of Royal Street" with Pink Martini trumpet player Gavin Bondy. She dedicated it to Helen Hill who was a close friend of many in the audience.

It's really no surprise that Harry is so dumb that he thought this would fly. What surprises me is the Royal chain of command this decision to dress as a Nazi must have gone through. Harry being somebody who has never had to buy anything or shop in his entire life, so presumably Harry states "bring me a Nazi uniform," and a line of Royal advisers and servants set about this not ever questioning the implication. I just wonder how many Tsunami care packages Harry will have to pack to make ammends.

I have heard "The Producers" being brought into this debate in various news reports. The trouble with that is "The Producers" is not relative at all. It's a commercial venture and as such free of public constraints. Harry and his family exist by virtue of the taxing of a nation. As such it has been decided that they should represent the ideas and diversity of that nation, which partying in Nazi unifroms does not really fit into. Especially when you are a family with a history of being, if...
