In case there is any confusion right now about evacuating with pets: The usual ban on pets on the subway has been lifted during the evac - remember that all mass transit is shutting down at noon Saturday. If you have a carrier case/kennel for your pet, NYC emergency shelters have a separate area where pets in their carriers will be housed. Owners are responsible for walking and feeding them. So, please make sure you have access to your pet's carrier/kennel. I am looking for more information...

My favorite night of all has to be the Home Shopping Network, because it was my first night ever at Jackie. I had been told my several different people- "oh, you would love Jackie." So I went one night, and it was packed to the rafters, but when I walked in I was entraced by Marti and Jessica on stage- dialing the phone, teasing each other's hair, etc. Like nothing I had ever seen before. What I wore will not be discussed, though I remember it too well, as such things have long since been...

This would be the start of a thread about "Whispers", the weekly party that ran at the Pyramid in NYC from 1984-1988 or 9. Modelled after a gay bar in upstate New York, it was billed as an event for the "Complete Suburban Homosexual" and welcomed "Gay and Lesbian Hairdressers, Waiters, Florists, Showfolk...and sensitive straight people" Hapi Phace was the hostess. Does anyone else remember this?

The thought of being a NYC expatriate has crossed my mind many times as of late. I too was at the Winter Music Conference in March in sunny Miami, and I had some of the best club experiences I have EVER had in my life. Powerhouse DJs and clubgoers from the around the world brought back many fond memories for me of the NYC club scene in the late 80s when I first moved here. In particular at Miami's Club Space and Crow Bar, I was surrounded by a glamorous, friendly, diverse, international...

Yikes! I didn't mean to imply that I PREFERRED Miami to New York, simply that I enjoyed its club scene, and it WAS a lot of fun. There is an element of sleaze and hedonism in the city's nightlife that reminded me of how things used to be here. Even Iggy Pop agrees on that. Of course, I was there during the Winter Music Conference when all the best and brightest DJs and clubgoers from around the world converge on the city, so undoubtedly I experienced the creme de la creme. Under ordinary...

I'm almost certain that in the beginning the three Traxx (NYC, DC and Denver) were owned by the same people and it was a chain, but later the original owners sold off the franchise one by one. Arguably Traxx DC could have been the best of the three. I only went there a few times in the early -mid 90s but was impressed with how it blended the music of the NYC version with the indoor/outdoor ambiance of the Denver version, which also featured a large outdoor patio and sandpit. But the NYC...

This was the only one that got a little raunchy, in sort of a stripper sort of way. During one number the trannies all were dancing seductively in whorey outfits with their nipples popping out. The predominantly Indian tourbus crowd was living! If ya' can't get it driving a cab in NYC, go to Bangkok! [This...

I think around '81 Club 57 started hosting parties at Irving Plaza. A Ukrainian sponsor/host (Stanley?) would dare the punks to throw beer cans and bottles at him on stage. (They obliged.) When the umbrella term "transgender" started to encompass everyone on the Benjamin scale, from 1 to 6, I welcomed it. I remember how the NYC Drag Queens fought to not be included under that term at Stonewall 25, in order to have a separate marching contingent from Transgender. I was saddened by that at the time, but now have more understanding. There is really very little that an active transsexual (I make that distinction as I have encountered so many on the net that call themselves...

All I can do is nod in agreement and say "so well stated." I think I know what you mean, Sweetie, about not having a focused point, but I think that there is one there somewhere. This is a difficult topic to really tie together for some reason. I obviously have a lot of mixed feelings about it. Perhaps it's a flaw of character on my part, but I still haven't much sympathy or patience for anyone who is scared to death to show their colors in this world. This subject is always so polarizing, and we've tried to steer clear of it ... While all of it was going on, we were being good little students and getting our education at Ohio University in the middle of nowhere. Zazoo did go to Limelight and Club USA in '92 (or ˜93) and had a blast. The Little Professor bookstore on campus carried "Project X" but that was the extent of our knowledge of the scene in NYC. It is a chronicle of those who fancy-danced in heels, glitter, and feathers before us. Furthermore, it is a fascinating to see such a different era- hippie communes, free love, lots of potent LSD (and certainly not the kind of stuff I had in high school a decade later), and a brief time when gender wasn't really an issue (or so it seemed in the movie). At the same time, the scenes from the opening night of their performance in NYC show how some things never change- air kisses, snatchy...
