The Saint not have a heyday? How old are you partybobby? The Saint was located where the old Fillmore East was (Second Avenue between 6th & 7th Streets,) and is way up there in the pantheon of legendary gay nightclubs. Any other club that might have assumed the name since the 1980s is simply a thieving and unoriginal imposter. Except, of course, The Saint-At-Large which carries on its tradition and invented the concept of "Circuit Party." The Saint had a group of owners, most notably...

I remember the Mattachine Society Daddy. Jim Forratt and I used to go to their meetings in D.C. back in '68. The entire GLF ( Gay Liberation Front) from the gay commune in D.C. were determined to bring them down as we thought that they were old school and that we were the next wave. And then Stonewall happened and it was party, party, party from then on. All the rest after that is a total blur. Hatches?

I wasn't big on the big outdoor raves (sadly). I was more into the big indoor raves (also with like 3,000 people with teacup eyes). Those days were really fun and exciting. Every few years there is something "new" that happens that get people really excited. There is a feeling that "something new" is happening. A movement. Disco, Punk, Roller Disco, New Wave, Voguing/House Balls, Raves... They were all very creative exciting periods. Sadly kids today know nothing about this. (I'm sorry but...

This was from 2005. Interesting to read it in 2008. NY Post By Maureen Callahan Published January 27, 2005 JASON Gordon, a 27year-old book publicist whose blog, Productshop NYC, covers the downtown music scene, says he knew the Lower East Side was over when "one of my mom's friends had her 50th birthday party at Tenement." Ok then, I've made it through another weekend of extreme gaiety. This weekend was the end of the Matinee Group's CIRCUIT festival so they went out with guns blazing. Friday was an all day water park party. They literally closed down the park to anyone but the gays (I think for fear of upsetting the children). Whatever, more room for us. None of us knew what to expect as no one in my posse had been to the park before. I thought it was gonna be a couple slides and a wave pool but we arrived at...

When we first arrived it was great because there were no lines for the slides so we just ran around like 8 year-olds hopped up on candy and soda....just slightly different. Towards the afternoon they brought out the dj's and go go dancers on the stage which was set up right in front of the wave pool so everyone was dancing in the pool. As the music would go to a frenzied crescendo the entire pool would start splashing. It was so retarded but so damn fun you had to just join in. This is what...

It's so sad to see NYC change like this. I have been away from NYC for awhile now. I moved just after NYU built those dorms on third ave and 11 st, where the parking lot was. I remember the Palladium, Variety and Luchow's. Luchow's became a club, I think it was called the Union Club, then it had a go as a new wave club, like the Cat club, but failed, no one went there. I have lived in NYC most of my life, I arrived there at 2 years of age. I grew up in the Bronx, so as kids we would always...

The same thing is happening here in Ptown. Out with the old and in with the new..just like the way the youth of today treat the legends of yesterday. What happened to us? We can blame it all on Bush economics and his insidius political behaviors or we can take a look at ourselves and ask how we helped to contribute to this climate. The blame game will only take us so far, it will really come down to how we as individuals deal with our world and how we vote or spend our money. Ask everytime...

eeek oh seven that is such glum news - I live in Williamsburg and I barely know anyone here anymore. Many people have moved overseas. Or LA of all places. Or Philly. Or anyplace where they have time to make art and live creatively. People used to make fun of me for living in Brooklyn but for a short time it was magic to live here. Because the rest of the world left us the fuck alone to do whatever we wanted. Perhaps NY needs another crime wave. sigh
