Thanks for the dialogue! Roman a clef always has been with us. 'Liaisons Dangereuses' is a great example. That book was a total scandal and banned when it appeared. The author was forced to write a book on the Joys of Marriage or some such drivel to clear his name. (That book was NOT a best seller...) In any event, what happened with Truman is he wrote in a 'fiction' (Answered Prayers) the details of a murder of a high society gent, by his wife, one of the grandes dames... The lady had...

The situation outside San Francisco's City Hall escalates as gay marriage opponents begin passionate protests. San Francisco (which is both a city and a county) has now stepped up the battle with a lawsuit of its own against California state. What's fierce to me in all of this is how many of the local and even state officials, most of them heterosexual, are in favor of Mayor Newsom's decision. Even if all these gay marriages happening now are later invalidated, this historic event has begun...

We'll have to do a staircase chair, an upstairs balcony dressing room, or something for performers, cause in most other ways this venue is the best for the event AT THE SIZE IT HAS BECOME. And barring a complete change in management there, I would say we will be returning to the Knit next year. Heat being a factor, we may move the date up to late April, as it used to be... S'tan you don't want to experience this Khafka-meets-Fellini event? What can SF possibly offer in compensation, besides tweeked up mutant hippies and down at their heels refugees from Silicon Valley? I'm sure your business associates are over-booked for the week. It would be very engaging just to see the psychic gymnastics that will take place. I think one key here to not being bothered is to simply not see the convention attendees as they see themselves. Not hard really. People who live in...

What artist would not like to make a living doing what they love to do? I don't understand your contempt for those who are able to. If it makes you feel better, I do not believe that most of those painters are rich at this moment, but even if they were, this would not make them a bunch of whores. If they are now getting media attention and a place in history, that doesn't make them sell-outs. The Soho art scene was crowded then, and getting way too blue-chip and over-valued. The fact that a...

Hello Ann's Brother, Bill! Just the other day I was sitting in a parking lot in Fort Lauderdale and thinking of Ann and of writing a bit about her... Ann's involvement with the Pyramid predated my own, believe it or not. She was the regular host of Bobby Bradley's brainchild-- a Sunday night performance art event called "Cafe Iguana." I agree with S'tan mostly. If the bride asked for the person's participation I don't see anything amiss. I think if some straight person has a problem with it then that is really their problem and I personally wouldn't get too caught up in that drama since that is what anyone having a problem would want, to suck the trans person in to some soap opera over the whole thing. It is way past time straight people got used to these situations. For me the whole point is that trans people should no...

Well, folks, perhaps we should become our own Al Sharptons. Although I try to believe in the American system of justice-- against all odds it would seem-- it very frequently fails us. Especially when the so-called leader of this country has repeatedly ensured that we be considered and treated like second-class citizens. Enough! I will never forget the riots in the streets of san Francisco when the Dan White verdict was handed down. But that would be looking a bit far in the future right now.
