S'tan you don't want to experience this Khafka-meets-Fellini event? What can SF possibly offer in compensation, besides tweeked up mutant hippies and down at their heels refugees from Silicon Valley? I'm sure your business associates are over-booked for the week. It would be very engaging just to see the psychic gymnastics that will take place. I think one key here to not being bothered is to simply not see the convention attendees as they see themselves. Not hard really. People who live in...

What artist would not like to make a living doing what they love to do? I don't understand your contempt for those who are able to. If it makes you feel better, I do not believe that most of those painters are rich at this moment, but even if they were, this would not make them a bunch of whores. If they are now getting media attention and a place in history, that doesn't make them sell-outs. The Soho art scene was crowded then, and getting way too blue-chip and over-valued. The fact that a...

Hello Ann's Brother, Bill! Just the other day I was sitting in a parking lot in Fort Lauderdale and thinking of Ann and of writing a bit about her... Ann's involvement with the Pyramid predated my own, believe it or not. She was the regular host of Bobby Bradley's brainchild-- a Sunday night performance art event called "Cafe Iguana." Gracious, chatty, and personable, Ann's introductions often began in a rambling and disconnected manner, but somehow she managed, during the course of her...

I agree with S'tan mostly. If the bride asked for the person's participation I don't see anything amiss. I think if some straight person has a problem with it then that is really their problem and I personally wouldn't get too caught up in that drama since that is what anyone having a problem would want, to suck the trans person in to some soap opera over the whole thing. It is way past time straight people got used to these situations. For me the whole point is that trans people should no...

Homouality? It really says something about the actual real power of words, and the power of money. Why a magazine publisher would castrate themself in order to make the mag more marketable. And how feckless to cut 'sex' out of homo, since homo graphically implies all the sex that is being cut out. On the other side, maybe the party is just sooooooo great it is hard to let it be promoted as what it really is without having a postorgasmic blackout just out of anticipation. In any event I am...

OUTED! Kind of a low beginning to the end of the deceptions. If you go to the article in the Times there is a nice picture of all three of the protagonists in the scam, all looking massively neurotic and spooked under the cameraflashes. Well, folks, perhaps we should become our own Al Sharptons. Although I try to believe in the American system of justice-- against all odds it would seem-- it very frequently fails us. Especially when the so-called leader of this country has repeatedly ensured that we be considered and treated like second-class citizens. Enough! I will never forget the riots in the streets of san Francisco when the Dan White verdict was handed down. But that would be looking a bit far in the future right now.

Hi Amber! There is so much press coming this year that we have had to take on a wrangler to handle them on The Night - the adorable Kevin Giss. We are going to set up a side area for press to interview performers at the event, and we will have Kevin coordinate performers to go there either before or after their set to be interviewd/photographed/filmed. They seem especially interested in our beloved Gypsies (performers and fans who travel in) so I'm sure they will be eager to hit you up!

The hotel sector of the city's economy is a kind of mafia. They generate their own statistics and so it never shows the sector doing badly, only that demand for rooms keeps going up. This is the only convenient thing the hotels need to cite as they steadily raise their 'rack rate' rooms, which during peak tourist season now easily average considerably more than $300 a night. The only adversary the hotels really face anymore are their labor unions. I worked a large event last February at the...
