Re: My own private East Village

B. Domination ·
Ahh, the pitbull debate. Well, the problem is unregulated breeding (my uncle was a breeder). Pitbulls were bred for aggression towards animals, but they are/were surprisingly docile towards humans. If you have a real pit, it is advised you not use it as a guard dog because of their love for humans. Today's pits are, of course, descendants of those lines, and if they have been bred correctly, should have no aggression towards humans. HOWEVER, because of inbreeding and general misbreeding...

When I lived on 11 and B I was in the park a lot more often than now when I'm on 2nd. I used to see the young boys baiting their pbulls in the park by putting a rag up in a tree branch just out of jump range and just commanding the dog to go for it for, like, an hour. Those maulers would never even get winded even though the task was futile. But one trick if a pit gets your dog in their jaws is to throw your cup of coffee or your soda right on their face. It shocks them and they freak out...

Recently we discovered the dog run at Stuyvesant Park, open only during evenings. My bat-earred Frenchie Napoleon loves how much room there is there, he ran around tonight with a Pug like he was on a race track. I don't care for the fact that it's all concrete, but apart from that I like the space and the mellow crowd. Sometimes I take him on little mini-tours where we hit Stuyvesant, then the dog run at Union Square, then we double-back to Tompkins Square Park. By the end of it he's usually...

A hopeful and lovely sound.. This is a dog-walking story too, in a way: I often take Casanova (the eskimo pup) on a late-night walk to my favorite place in all of Gotham, St. Mark's Church. He cant go inside the grounds but loves the place as much as his mom does, though he sometimes senses the ghostly activity and bays. A few nights ago I walked him there at 1 AM - it was very quiet on the streets. As we rounded the corner I heard the unmistakable lines of Alan Ginsberg's "Howl" "who...

NAPOLEON AT "SUMMER CAMP" WITH THE HOUSE OF DOMINATION. Our friend Lauren Pine is babysitting our fag child at her white trash country shack in Woodstock. As fate would have it she was a one-time Method go-go cast member at Jackie ... not sure what her House of Domination club moniker was. Parting with him was sweet sorrow. I handed off Napoleon's toys, treats and food to Lauren as he got in the car with her on Second Avenue and quickly had to flee before I started full-out balling. I'm such...

Our campaign to feed the stray dogs of Athens went well. The extra bacon we swiped from our hotel's breakfast buffet was well received by several sleeping pooches at the Acropolis. I was careful not to get too close as I flung the bacon slabs at them, just in case they have rabies or something. But they were all so drowsy with sleep it didn't matter. One dog by the Acropolis ticket office was so inert I actually paused to watch for the rise-and-fall of its stomach for a moment to make sure...

We were not prepared for how much we'd miss our baby. This morning in Patmos while climbing the hill to the monastary we came upon the very first small dog we have seen in all of Greece. The little thing was exactly Napoleon's size and was eager for us to pet him, which we did. (he was not a stray, he lived in the little souvenir shop where we found him). I almost started balling right then and there. Luckily I had my sunglasses on. From now on I think small 4-day trips might be better for...

The 2004 Olympics had a dramatic effect on Athens, the host city. Various municipal projects that languished for decades (mass transit upgrades, construction, clean-ups) were rapidly speeded up to be finished in time for the Games and the worldwide press at a cost of nearly 2 billion dollars. In the end the Olympics proved to be a sizeable financial loss for the country, and it will take 20+ years to pay back what was spent. The subject is still hotly debated among the Greeks. Athens city...

Meanwhile our much-anticipated reunion with Napoleon went off well. The three of us were ecstatic to be reunited. Our baby looks thinner than usual but otherwise in good spirits. Perhaps I'll bake him some Tater Tots this afternoon. His boot camp Mistress-Nanny Cupcake Domination left us a 4-page note about all the new commands she taught him. We went out early for our usual Sunday morning walk and we saw some of his doggie friends at the dog run including Olive, Alma, Chester and Chula.

Has anyone read "Now Is The Hour" yet? I saw it in the Barnes & Noble window so I know it's out. It's great. The Herstory: In the early 1980's I was marginally involved in the early Hip Hop scene. It was so great in those early daze. Hip Hop was new and VERY up beat. But by the late 80's / early 90's it was just starting to get dark and "thuggy". We're flying to Florida the weekend after next to my aunt's 5-acre farm and we've planned on bringing our baby Napoleon with us. He's exactly 20 lbs, right around the size where airlines start giving you shit about taking a dog with you in the cabin (we refuse to check him with luggage). I was already nervous about the whole thing because you just never know with airlines and dogs, no matter what their written policy is ... so much depends on who you get, what kind of mood they're in, etc.

It's all well and good to question what we read (particularly in the Bush era). But I'm inclined to agree with Lily on the religion piece and with Darla (!!) on the Middle East's gay position. Our Western justice system and culture of political correctness are the only things that separate the far-right Christian fundamentalists here from the religious extremist culture of the Middle East.
