LUXURY LAPPING: Revenge of the Titty Bars? A resurgence of name brand Las Vegas-style strip bars in midtown seems to be signaling a new era of "respectability" for the titty-twirlers and for New York. Not quite as sleazy as their Times Square predecessors, these new clubs are sleeker, bigger and more corporate in their approach, but it beats having no titty bars at all. Does this mean the Big Apple's sphincter is finally loosening again after so many years of Guiliani's attacks? Or is the...

Thank you Chi Chi and Bobby, it was my pleasure to share that. That's so true Anna. This show was so much better than those big productions of the past. It was just Bowie and his band pulling it all off song by song. Between songs he was so funny and present with everyone. He reminded me of a Rock 'n Roll Richard Dawson in his humorous manner with everyone. And yes, he does look HOT!!!! He still has such sexy moves too, such grace and style.

I was always intrigued with his fey Fletcher Christian. And of course his demonic stint in Apocalypse. Even more bizarre was a very late career bit in a re-re-make of The Island of Dr. Moreau -I think I have the title slightly wrong. But he played the title role- a mad scientist with a strange affliction caused by his own experiments- all 300lbs of Brando costumed in a lot of drappery, with a big floppy hat and a veil, his visible flesh made to look very ashy. Really creepy/pathetic. No...

A friend who started following the Amazon blather when it started about 2 weeks ago said that the Anne Rice post is allegedly a hoax, and that that wasn't even her real address. Anyone hear? That would mean someone at the NY Times didn't do their facts-checking. What a shocker. It would be one thing if she recognized herself as good trash, Lexx, but she does think she is the Mozart of la litterature. And style? This is a long two page article from the NYTIMES but it is spot on target regarding some aspects of the mass delusion being incubated by the Little Bush Idiocracy. And it took some backbone for Rich to write it. Curious as hell though that the Times put it in the Arts section and perhaps it is a little delusionally symptomatic that an article about censorship in the news is written about for a cultural context. The main point though, that the political administration in power proclaims that...

Farewell charming old lines outside of nightclubs! Finally, no more waiting around to get into all my favorites: Cielo, Spirit, et al. It's PartyBuddys! Yesterday's NYT had a fascinating story about a couple of alleged former Limelight habitues, who are putting their club-smarts to good use: PartyBuddys helps Joe and Jane Schmos bypass lines and gain instant access to VIP lounges at all of the city's top clubs -- for a fee. I am so down with the hire-a-paparazzo, too. A steal at $250/night.

Against all odds - Palladium was undeniably fun. No one believed it could be hip - it was just too big, but somehow it all pulled together. I saw some great shows there: Gwen Guthrie, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, El Grand Combo, Grace Jones, Debbie Harry, Joyce Sims, even Vanity 6! Sister Dimemsia DJ-ing in the Michael Todd Room. I used to wonder just how much extra insurance the club had to carry to have banks of televisions on hydraulic lifts spinning over the dancer's heads. The art...

As per the glamourization of murder, there is no doubt stories of murder and serial killing, etc. are very 'entertaining' but there are limits. E.g. Keep your eyes peeled for the Style Section of Sunday's Times , which will have a huge article on Dean. The writer, Kara Buckley, is one of the paper's crime reporters (the story originally was originally fielded to the Crime Dept. and when they decided it shouldn't be run under "Crime" they moved it, and her, to the Style Section). She seems very bright, so it thankfully may not be the usual Style Section pap. We hope.
