When I was working the coffee cafe at A Differrent Light Bookstore, Joe was a featured guest author for the book "Little Joe." This was in the fall of 1998, and he was still quite handsome and sexy. He was standing across from my counter and his friends were telling him what a good Tarot reader I am and that he should get his cards read by me. He gave me a good long look over and smiled at me, and said maybe another time. I was just happy to have shared that smile with him. I've seen him in...

His first parties were at Danceteria not Limelight. How very DV, that discussion of her book led into much ado about fragrances. Sweetie, you and I have had many a discussion about the fabulousness that she was, and of course, credit to where credit is due, but I would have never heard of that book were it not for the esoteric musings of Matthew Kasten. I too have never been a fan of Angel or any of those "harder" pungent smelling ones, but I am now a Jo Malone convert, and her yummy light fragrances are now available to us downtown residents...

I knew I would be happily entertained when I went to the Bowie concert at Jones Beach on Friday night, but I didn't expect the Show of Shows that I experienced. He was so relaxed, suave and poised. Full of humor, joking and talking with the audience between every song, and totally giving of himself thoughout the evening. He was the epitome of the King of Cups in Tarot. He went everywhere with his song choices for the night, and wherever he went, he was completely into it. He had great...

Bobby, something made me think fondly of P'Town last night. Perhaps it was the sudden cold snap and the snow we got here. There is an incredible raw beauty about December on the Cape that I love-- snow blowing down the empty stretch of Commercial Street, the fireplace at the A House, the bulk of one's day spent indoors with only a brief and brave venture out to the post office to keep cabin fever at bay. I am not a huge fan of winter, but I think if I were to spend it again anywhere in New...

The "Only Money vs. Only No Money" thread here made me think of this... Odd that about 28 years ago I was having a very similar discussion one day in a loft on Mercer Street owned by a cocaine dealer friend of my brother's who had laundered his money by buying up a great deal of that neighborhood. Tom Wolfe's The Painted Word had come out the previous year and someone was playing a then-unreleased demo of a song by Joni Mitchell, composed as a response to Wolfe (The Boho Dance.) Naturally...

I would respectfully like to hear what you think about how or in what way the art from that secene was influential, and what or whom it has influenced. And what real force it is supposed to have exercised other than an economic one. A widely accepted and agreed hallmark of the vast majority of the art from that scene was principally that it was known for being derivative and for being based on reams of influences. Also, I...
