With what would have been her 65th birthday on 4/16...I have been listening to lots of Dusty Springfield lately.

She died months just short of her 60th birthday after battling breast cancer and missed her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

A distinctive voice of spun gold, an early warrior for civil rights in the 60s, and a white soul priestess, she had an amazing life. She was a drag queen who used the wigs, false eyelashes, glitzy costumes, and exaggerated movements all for dramatic effect in delivering a song, but also as an armor against all her demons. After her initial success, the 70s & 80s were tortured & twisted for her in a sea of pills and booze, until the Pet Shop Boys rousted her from the depths in 1987.

How can one not love Dusty Springfield?
