The Illustrious Blacks(Monstah Black & Manchildblack)

An intergalactic journey in sound and performance in a world in which they thrive as Afro-Futuristic pilots, steering crowds through pandemonium, side-splitting mishaps and heroic victories.

Once upon a time in a galaxy not far away, there lived two kings. Each was the ruler of his own deliciously glorious planet. The first king, Manchildblack, was well known throughout the cosmos for his ethereal vocals, celestial sonics and earthy musical messages. The other king, Monstah Black, was a star in the solar system for his gravity defying performances, gender-bending fashions and spacey disposition. One magical night, an inexplicable ultra-magnetic pull forced the two planets to collide. A technicolored explosion occurred turning night into day with a feast of aural and visual delights. It was then that the universe was changed forever. Manchildblack and Monstah Black united and became The IllustriousBlacks.

With inspiration from extra terrestrials like Prince, David Bowie, Grace Jones, Boy George and George Clinton, The Illustrious Blacks have arrived with a mission to fuse futuristic funk, hypnotic house and cosmic pop into pulsating positivity for the planet. The Blacks are not only co-pilots on their artistic voyage, but are united in their fantastical journey through life.

While The Illustrious Blacks prepare to release their highly anticipated debut EP on Manchildblack's label Hype Life Music, the dynamic duo can be found living it up at their intergelectrodiscosoul soiree titled Astro Disco. This Brooklyn based monthly party features Monstah Black as MC of the madness, while Manchildblack spins epic beats on the 1's and 2's. The event has been heralded as a throwback to a time in New York City when people of all races, sexual orientations, income brackets and beliefs partied together, losing themselves through the vibration of music.

If Astro Disco is meant to elevate you into the stratosphere, then The Illustrious Blacks Youtube show, "At Home w/The Blacks," is an opportunity to experience their inner space. The entertaining and often hilarious weekly series invites viewers onto the mothership of the charismatic couple, where they discuss the latest happenings in global pop culture.

Individually, Manchildblack and Monstah Black illuminate the galaxy with equal magnitude. Together, as The Illustrious Blacks, they have combined their powers and metamorphosed into supernovas, blazing through the Milky Way like a comet, with their own unique brand of cosmic freak nobility.

September 21: Mala (Digital Mystikz) + Francois K., early set by DJ Madd
https://www.facebook.com/events/884093184999859/

Mala is a producer, DJ, label owner and visionary best known for his contributions to the scene known as dubstep. But to people who have been touched by his music or moved by his DJing, he holds deeper place in their hearts. Through certain frequencies, his music carries a message that fundamentally connects people.

Mala began spreading this message from South London in the early 2000s, when the dubstep scene was a tiny, ignored community of likeminded individuals, committed to exploration and imbibing of subsonic frequencies in locations like the record shop Big Apple, club Forward>> at Plastic People and pirate station Rinse FM. He formed production outfit Digital Mystikz with one friend Coki and by adding two others, Loefah and St Pokes, they launched the DMZ night, the first club night to share dubstep on a wider scale.
His music was first cut to dubplate and played by pioneering DJ, Hatcha and released on his label Big Apple Records. As the music began to flow, the DMZ label was born to share it on vinyl and now, years later, those records are viewed as foundational dubstep milestones. Tracks like 'Learn' displayed Mala's breathtaking and intuitive sense of rhythm, while 'Anti War Dub' - played the weekend after the 7/7 London tube bombings - showed both Mala's talent for uplifting percussive groove but his ability to express message and meaning through his music.

As dubstep began to shift from tiny collective to national and then international movement, Mala was at the forefront of the wave, able to take his frequencies to ever increasing audiences and communities. The Deep Medi label was formed and began showcasing likeminded production talent from beyond the DMZ stable, releasing to date, 58 12' vinyl singles and 7 artist albums. Mala himself released his longplayer 'Return II Space.' His music has been used in major motion pictures ('Children of Men') and he has had the opportunity to remix and connect with likeminded artists from other movements like NYC's Francois K, Moritz Von Ozwald from Basic Channel, Grace Jones, and Lee 'Scratch' Perry, amongst others. This year he launched his new night System.

Fundamentally however, scenes, gig sizes, notable collaborations and major motion picture soundtracks are milestones of little import to someone like Mala. What was and remains central to him is his deep connection with sound and his ability to create frequencies and harmonics that share that connection in a way that blissfully, powerfully and peacefully unifies all those who listen.

FranÇois K. is revered as the co-creator of New York City’s legendary dance party Body&SOUL. He tours worldwide for not only his soulful house dj sets, but also for his techno and dub mixes. Over the years he performed regularly at Studio 54, Paradise Garage, The Loft, Ministry of Sound, Sound Factory Bar, Twilo, Roxy and Club Yellow in Japan, to name a few. In great demand, FranÇois has gone into the studio to produce/remix recordings by Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Jimmy Cliff, Underworld, Eurythmics, Bunny Wailer, U2, Ashford & Simpson with Maya Angelou, the Smiths, Dido, Finley Quaye, Diana Ross, Cure, Mick Jagger, Fishbone, Talvin Singh, D Train, Erasure, Yazoo, Black Uhuru, Thomas Dolby, and Jah Wobble. In 2005 FranÇois was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame.

Deep Space, is an adventure into future dub, spacey vibes, and abstract grooves featuring resident DJ FranÇois K. live on the mixing board with special guests.

Since the party’s launch in 2003, Deep Space has featured a who’s who of well known and then emerging artists from around the world representing a stunning array of musical styles that Deep Space is known for integrating into its open minded aesthetic. While the mission of Deep Space remains committed to sharing a love of dub, a vast, under-appreciated musical direction, the party has invited a great range of guest artists to share their creative dub mixing approaches to all things spacey, psychedelic and mind-bending.

From dubstep pioneers such as Mala, Goth-Trad, and Digital Mystikz, to house, techno & disco icons such as Giorgio Moroder, Dimitri from Paris, Theo Parrish, Rhythm & Sound, Ron Trent, Carl Craig, Joe Claussell, Derrick May, to cutting edge producers and tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Mr. Scruff, DJ Spooky and dub legends such as Adrian Sherwood with Pinch, Mad Professor, Mutabaruka and U-Roy, and Brazilian icons Otto with Carlinhos Brown and plenty of live musical and dance performers, Deep Space continues to be a magnet for attracting many of electronic dance music’s most innovative artists. Almost all of the guest artists who play at Deep Space create truly one-of-kind, crate-digging "Deep Space sets."
