Re: August 29 March and Rally- The Motherboards Marches

Stacy Amber ·
I'm so happy to hear from all that marched. Trygve, who is my friend and employer, and I marched with the Code Pink ladies. I think that we had to have been with the cutest contingent. Most of us wore pink. Many wore pink Statue of Liberty crowns and pink togas and some wore pink slips and many of us carried signs in the shape of pink lingerie slips that said "Pink Slip Bush." There was a Chorus line of girls in red, white and blue scanty dance costumes with big USA rockets strapped on like...

Everyone is free to dislike the Christo installation, but like it or dislike it on its own merits, not by its price tag. The "I could've done it myself for less" gripe has been done ad nauseum since Warhol painted a Campbell's soup can. Everybody looked at it, scratched their heads and said "I coulda done that". But they didn't do it, Warhol did it and it changed history and inspired legions of future artists. Likewise with the "in this day and age" bit, as if there weren't world problems or...

Re: Farewell Charming Old New York: Part 2

I walked up and down West 28th today and looked at all the little old buildings. Most are two and three storeys, and in pretty bad condition from years of neglect, just being used for the flower-merchants. You see water damage everywhere.. Most are very cute, sweet old places with the old paint still on them, funny rickety old wood windows...the wrecker's ball trembling above their heads. I had looked at space on West 27th facing North, and the views from those lofts are stupendous because...

You have stated it perfectly seven. It is wonderful yes that these big institutions exist, the Met, the Museums, etc. But being a consumer of art and high end artistic product is NOT the same issue as BEING an artist who has to LIVE in a place without being a slave. Who will be working for these great institutions, creating product for the future? Who will have the time, energy, leisure and freedom to WORK towards that level of artistic relevance and acceptance? I don't care HOW many trust...

Kids kids no fighting. I will post info when the Goodies get it together. I just saw Seven's Dad! or rather his Spiritual Father at the Fingernails post office. This wretched rusty Toyota truck on jacked-up big wheels pulls up ... it's dotted all over its ass with spray-paint color. A long lanky man gets out... with a shaved head, but that long strip in the back intact. Couldn't see if it was a cross... he's wearing a black leather hat adorned with both silver and esoteric bony regalia. He's...

Hollywood... I kick the empty Jack in the Box carton off the uneven sidewalk. Nobody walks the streets in this town. Passing the transient motel with its 50's motif and chipping paint i smell the stench of broken dreams on Sunset Blvd. Hollywood is unapologetic with its lure of bright lights, desparate with its fake promise of fame. Neon Lights flash "headshots", "photo re-touch" and "pawn shop" next to the predictable promise from the City of Angels - "Spiritual Healing". A location truck...

Anna, Who can afford to move anywhere these days. Except maybe back home. My Dad used to call me "The High Plains Drifter" but I feel more like The High Plains Squatter. I don't think artists are moving anywhere in particular. Austin? Miss U. that pic is heart-breaking but I am thrilled to know you can knock the shit over with one well-aimed drunken stilleto kick. One night F-Major and I did kick a hole in the side of an NYU dorm being built on the Bowery (across fom the Slide I think it...

Welcome to Hell(shire). Hellshire, Jamaica is a local beach not far from Kingston town; rougher rugged ramshackle kind of beach, what it lacks in beauty it well makes up for with personality. "Ice Cold Beers! Cigarettes, Wata!" the lanky toothless man hawks, "Wata! Hygrade! IceCold Beers!" the local word for herb was carnival barked like a brand name with a smirk. Welcome to Hellshire! Small crudely constructed huts with corrugated zinc roof, painted in brightly chipping paint litter a...

Re: Local Artist Stabs us in the Back?

Zazoo and Satori ·
So she didn't even use the "my church made me do it" excuse like all the others? Paintings take such time and passion, it seems hard to believe she would choose to paint subjects she later pay to repress... I guess there's no chance she was just really confused on what side she was contributing to given she also contributed to the swift boaters too.

She sounds like a Simpleton. It is obvious from her 2004 post that what she doesn't get is that "marriage" without the State/Federally recognized license is just a ceremony. What people want is the legal piece of paper and the 1138 Right and Responsibilities that come with that legal piece of paper. And she's full of shit for thinking that calling out her hypocrisy is even coming close to equaling a $1000 donation to the repression of rights, let alone comparing it to "brownshirt tactics."...

The Grand Ballroom at the Life Ball - this was Johnny's dancefloor of several thousand.. The ball was at Vienna's neo-Gothic City Hall, and drew 4,000 guests plus early events in the town square brought 40,000 out. The Life Ball is Europe's biggest AIDS benefit, and was expected to raise a million euros this year. This year's theme was water, and mermaids, jellyfish mermen and sea urchins abounded as did an alarming amount of blue body paint!

Short answer to "colorful abandon" - yes. You should definitely check out "Cheryl" if you like the parties @ Cosmic Cavern. We're not associated with either but highly recommend both. Long answer/comparison: Cosmic Crowd: polysexual/queer, mixed, underground/hipster with a very high percentage of notable personalities & local celebrities. Costumes & crowd participation. (Kenny paints people as they come in the door) Cosmic Music/Format: (Scott Ewalt) 50's-Current. heavy on Rock,...

Barton Sicuso called me recently - but his cell was breaking up and I didn't get the whole number, but from the area code he's in Frisco. The bar dancer in blue body paint (mentioned elsewhere here) and the mohawk is another story. He is a butoh dancer / house cleaner / art school model / bicyle repair person now living in Philly. I still "see" him from time to time.

Hi Dana That was fun(ny) to get the tech-take on my stage fortitutude and tenacity (two-hour shows). That stage was a battle ground in some ways, all those drag bitches and their air-kisses . . . with their shiny-sharp knives tucked up their chiffon sleeves (Hi Bunny!) . . . to have that mike and keep going & going was territorial in a way . . . sort of like a Chihuahua peeing in the house to mark its territory. Like a Chihuahua really gets any territory . . . but they are so cute , ¡Ay,...

Hey, I got your spam. It wasn't Suzanne Somers on the horse silly! They told you on the Motherboards that it was Bianca Jagger. You have poor listening skills. Listen, there is absolutely nothing wrong with promoting to a more mainstream crowd. There are more of them, they tend to pay, that's what it's all about. But, when you paint your party as something that it isn't, you just get a lot of people mistrusting you. It's like crying wolf. You don't have a gay following. Nor do you have an...

Okay, okay I know. This may be a worn-out subject, like talking about Studio 54. But I watched this for the first time in years yesterday. Afterward I was shocked that I don't actually own it on video. I had forgotten (duh!) how really, really good it is. I enjoyed it so much! Many people dismiss it as just some stupid disco movie, as a joke period piece or whatever, but I found in many respects the disco sequences were peripheral to the story, which is really about a bunch of loser guidos...

I'm of several minds on the question, "Is NYC over?" The first is, yeah, a big club filled with interesting people is a lotta fun. But where have all the interesting people gone? I simply don't think that NYC has as many of them today as it did once upon a time. The younger generation is fraught with so much store-bought cool, and while there are some bona fide geniuses on the rise, the volume of genuine creativity and verve seems to have dwindled dramatically since the 80s, replaced by an...

Some highlights included Lundi Gras evening we were first row as the King Of carnival - Rex - with velvet and rhinestone encrusted masked entourage came over by boat to receive the actual control of the city from the mayor. They were then joined onstage by King Zulu and members of his entourage, who all had gwens upon gwens holding...
