Re: NYC Expatriates Topic

Yikes! I didn't mean to imply that I PREFERRED Miami to New York, simply that I enjoyed its club scene, and it WAS a lot of fun. There is an element of sleaze and hedonism in the city's nightlife that reminded me of how things used to be here. Even Iggy Pop agrees on that. Of course, I was there during the Winter Music Conference when all the best and brightest DJs and clubgoers from around the world converge on the city, so undoubtedly I experienced the creme de la creme. Under ordinary...

I hear from DJ Sammy Jo that Paris has been celebrating her birthday at SEVERAL parties including Las Vegas, LA 4 in New York alone. But the best is that they had a party in Tokyo and she wasn't even there, supposedly the Hilton sisters are now some kind of new obsession with the Japanese, (Otaku?)

Wow. I went to Pattaya to see the drag shows. We went to two, "Alcazar" and "Tiffany". While they were both dazzling, Tiffany, which started in the 70's, blew Alcazar out of the water! While the photos on their website look great, they don't begin to translate all the glitter and texture of the costumes, nor the kinetic grandeur of the sets... but go take a look around anyway: Tiffany Website On the "show preview" page, give it time to load and it becomes a little roll-over-the-photo...

I'm still spinning from the 10,000 miles I must have traveled in the last 24 hours. So I thought I would try to express some of the strange visions in my head. After driving a van for 10 hours straight, through the desert, buzzing on double shots of espresso and listening to bad radio so as not to drive off the road and into the abyss of darkness, I finally arrived in LA at 3 am. Took a plane at 3 pm and now I'm back in NYC. I'm sure Goblin will have many posts soon, but I thought I would...

I agree that M2M (or as Flloyd and I like to call it, F2M) is a step in the right direction for the NYU-infested 3rd ave. I'm a big fan of the Unagi which they have for very cheap. But overall I'm still partial to good old SUNRISE MART (it's on Stuyvesant Street just east of 3rd - take the elevator). Viva la japonaise! One thing I'd like to bring up here is the recent closing of many of our neighborhood markets and stores. BOTTOM LINE (10th & 1st) closed its doors this spring and I used...

They say one can't live on love alone but once again "they" are wrong! Many thoughts have been swooshing around my cranium since Thanksgiving night when I returned home after a lovely dinner at dear friends house to find I didn't really have an apartment left. The place was trashed (most likely electrical fire, no report yet) and my dear feline companion of nine years, Mr. Peebles, was dead. Since I lived alone I practically considered Mr. Peebles my hairy husband. If he was a person he...

While still living in DC in the early 90s, Split: Portrait of a Drag Queen played at the American Film Institute at the Kennedy Center, and I went to see the film, but not knowing much about it other than it was about a drag queen, I dragged my friends to come with me. Well, we all loved the movie, and I was fascinated with her oh-so-glamorous life (or so it appeared on celluloid), yet throughout the story the theme was her rising up and above any perceived pain or misery. Daddy, it was DeNiro playing the role of Lew Cipher. Messy Bonnie Raitt would have caught on to that right away. La Madison, the concert industry has faltered because of marketing that is no longer targeted enough. Simply putting tickets up on line at Ticketron etc. won't work any longer in a market that has become super-saturated with touring shows. The shows themselves have run up against a ceiling of extravagant overhead costs. And mostly it is the mid-level productions that can't make it...
