Legendary spoken word performer Emilio Cubeiro died on approx. June 15, 2001 in Craftbury Common, VT of complications due to Hepatitis C. A frequent contributor to one of the first gay poetry magazines, "Mouth Of The Dragon" throughout the early Seventies, Cubeiro's exceptional live performances combined poetry, rhythm and music years before anyone else. Reportedly, a young poet named Lydia Lunch saw him perform at CBGB's in 1972, and left completely transformed. It would be over 20 years...

Stacey made some interesting observations about crossdressers. Most of the crossdressers I have encountered are men who, by day, rigidly comply with their ""male role." I think that they fetishize their "female' side because to them it is forbidden. I guess, living in my little "bohemian" bubble just places me outside of that. I have no fear of wearing bright colors, giggling, gossiping, or discussing personal issues when I'm not in drag. I don't really acknowledge a "masculine" and a...

Donations will be collected from there and brought out by cab as they accumulate. Please do not leave cash in that manner (bring it instead to the above club locations) but clothing, costumes, etc. She has absolutely nothing, so almost anything would help. A message to all the New Yorkers working hard to resurrect live perfromance, Vaudeville, and Burlesque: it is alive and thriving here in the Viet Nam! I went to a club the other night. It was like some of the ones in Bangkok, it looks like a disco but people sit at cocktail tables and watch a show. We entered as a sexy girl pop singer was finishing her set. Oh, that is a beautiful question. I am STILL charmed. When I walk out of my East Village building near Avenue C and the first thing I hear from way up the block on a rainy early morning is the voice of Miguel Algarin, founder (along with Miguel Pinero and several others) of the still-in-existence Nuyorican Poets Cafe, as he sings a poem for no other reason than to greet the day, bounce sound off the buildings, and maybe, spark me to dance up the street into his embrace.

Yes dear Anna, and let's not spread it around too much! Ave. C still is one block too far east for the vast majority of the mall crowd cruising A and B lounges. Nublu is heavily populated by Brazilians and other South American partiers. Very ecclectic flavor, hot, rhythm-emphasizing live music, relatively inexpensive drinks. A real relaxed, open social vibe because of all that South American mind-set where diversity is a norm. Almost doesn't feel like New York City in there. Hope to catch...

New Orleans Reborn: Theme Park vs. Cookie Cutter By NICOLAI OUROUSSOFF NEW ORLEANS - Optimism is in short supply here. The first premonition arose when Mayor C. Ray Nagin announced that the model for rebirth would be a pseudo-suburban development in the Lower Garden District called River Garden.
