Hatches -- It was impressive to meet you, such a stately figure of consequence with a wise, yet subdued kindness. I hope you like the Jackie 60 Fashion Forward shwag, I apologize for the interruption in your stage performance last night (that was not my doing, ahem, Daddy - I much prefer being on the dance floor!) ------------- As I continue to delve into NYC in the 80s, I find more and more information about DWs work and the artists he collaborated with. Just when I thought I had a...

You "opened up" Wham? I thought those girls were already spread WIDE open! Maybe Billy just experimented in his youth. That novel/movie is supposed to be autobiographical. Synchronistically, the day after I finally started this topic, the following arrived via email, regarding Zette/Bernard's performances at Pat Field events at Area. Zette/Bernard emailed it to Scott Ewalt as research for the Pat Field book, but reveals so much about Zette and what was her and his genius, I thought Id share it here..

the finest thrift store chic that was, and my best attempt at copying the cover of the album...the rat you all refer to is a police cap with brooch applied dead center for glam effect, and the hideously colorful hanky was my attempt to tsjuz up the outfit!

OK, I too owned a rat wrap and wore eye make-up. Here is one of my '80's record covers. (It's a little beat up) Designed by the way by the brilliant Nick Egan. He did Culture Club, Bow Wow Wow, Malcolm McClaren, Hazy Fantazy to name a few. Nick is actually how I met George. (He's Nick & Ellen in the Book) Anyway, here it is. Have your way with me. If you guys can put up embarassing pics I guess I can too. That wig was pink by the way. I wish I still had it. It was genius.

I saw it today. I don't know what to think. It definitely wasn't bad, but I can't say it was good either. I thought MacAuley Culkin was irritating, if it was just Seth Green it would've been a much better movie. For those who know the story (or lived it), the only reason to see the movie was for the recreations of the club scene "back in the day", but as Z&S pointed out above those scenes are pretty much quick camera pans across a dark room with an indistinguishable glimpse at a few...

Y-U-C-K. It was a curiosity, but how awful. Terrible script, WORSE acting. A total embarassment. What was up with Macauley's "gay accent"? And the rat sequence at the end?? I half-enjoyed the book. I went with no expectations, so at least this wasn't the let down that it could have been, but still... And Christopher, I used to agree about Macauley...but now his lips have a more-odd puffiness to them that I just didn't find alluring.

Awwwww David... I certainly don't ever want to lose touch with you again either. I am very eager to hear more stories. That post was perfect because I used to always joke at the time-- with Greer and Hapi in particular-- that we should put up a card table at Port Authority bus terminal, right next to where those blue robed nuns used to stand, to welcome America's children into our wicked web. Little did I know that Ms. Langkton actually was doing that. I have one of Greer's few...

Excuse the gift for gabbing (i'll be good) It's nice to know.....that however small our "tech budget" was ..we were able to present a "multi media event" nightly using 'cardboard, broken 8mm & slide projectors, "a sealed beam pin spot" as a followspot and 3 mirror balls. I was shocked to see that here in China ... they are clueless to "inventive ideas" The clubs i've worked at here don't have professional staff. They press one button and the lights never stop. I was walking Casanova by Sammy Jo's house last night and as he was pissing on the side of Sammy Jo's building, right before he chased a big rat into the doorway, I noticed that Sammy's building is a Fallout shelter. What the hell does that mean in 2008? Are there really cans of beans stacked up in a little concrete bunker in Sammy's basement? Is that where we should all run when the big one hits? Sounds like a party. I imagine you must be getting pretty homesick for your apt. Pickles. Who...

It's kind of become like that hasn't it. But I kind of like to think of it as the Lower East Side blogging itself through me. One needs to think in terms of how much mayhem and jubilance has been endured. How vividly beautiful are the colors of rat entrails or sharp morning sunlight on the nearly naked bodies of a garden parade. What kind of sublime insanitywisdom flows off the tongue of a delirious neighbor as he collapses in a reverie imposed by HIV cocktails, insulin injections, 65 years...

As Greil Marcus points out so beautifully in the book, those lipstick traces (on a cigarette) can re-emerge decades or even centuries later in a new form, to re-energize or inspire. So it was, in microcosm today. We'd just finished several grueling days of storage weeding and moving, and decided to toss the mbanal reconstruction items from the 1999 shows, like the generic beatnik black turtleneck and the thriftshop black slip recreation of Holly Woodlawn's black strip. ROB LONG If you Google the words "lots and lots of Hollywood Republicans," you get about 58,900 hits, which just goes to show you that the Internet is really one big swamp of wishful thinking, political and pornographic. Because the truth is, even if you allot one Google hit per Hollywood Republican, you've still got about 58,885 hits too many. About every four years, Republican fundraisers and strategists lose contact with reality and declare "impressive inroads" into the Hollywood...
