Re: RIP, VIP
Legendary spoken word performer Emilio Cubeiro died on approx. June 15, 2001 in Craftbury Common, VT of complications due to Hepatitis C. A frequent contributor to one of the first gay poetry magazines, "Mouth Of The Dragon" throughout the early Seventies, Cubeiro's exceptional live performances combined poetry, rhythm and music years before anyone else. Reportedly, a young poet named Lydia Lunch saw him perform at CBGB's in 1972, and left completely transformed. It would be over 20 years...

Well, Nancy, as I'm sure youare aware, I was in my teen whilst I was a member of said cult. Those were the salad days.....All I ever could aford to eat was, salad. I learned quite a lot from some of my favorite performers. It was quite a magical time, although I believe a bit of an unstable time. I suppose magic and instability go hand in hand. I remember feeeling at different times central to the groups process and at others very peripheral. I suppose thats how things thrived. We all just...

Last night was amazing, packed house, sold out show(2,000 people), crazed fans. Deb sounded amazing. Total rock show, down to the stalker who jumped on stage in the middle of "Hanging on the Telephone" while Garrett and I were slam dancing around her.Security knocked him to the ground and we just kept slam dancing around them. They said in all 10 years of doing this night no one has ever done that(jumped on stage)...the power of Debravation. I stayed out with the 2 cuties we met on the Graham...

Wait till you hear about the Hong Kong show! Bill Clinton and this water sweetie. We brought Jaiko and Viva to Hong Kong to perform with us because the venue was so huge. It was an enormous convention center built in the harbor, huge stage, 2 huge projection screens,lights....yadda yadda. The whole thing was so sick. We performed...

I was also very touched watching her funeral ceremonies in Miami yesterday. Whenever I saw her perform, it was like seeing this tremendous spirit, or Loa, celebrating life and living in all its passion. She was a Great Lady and a Great Spirit. I never failed to be moved by her and her performances. Her Spirit Moves On and is with us still.

Re: DAVID BOWIE
I was just reading the posts in this category, and noticed the vast majority speak only of Davids more recent work and ignore his stuff from the early 1970's, which I consider his most inspired work (Space Oddity; The Man Who Sold the World; Hunky Dory; The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars; Aladin Sane). David Bowie has been a major influence on my life. Like many artists, it is difficult for those who weren't around when the artist first began influencing music to...

Daddy, it was DeNiro playing the role of Lew Cipher. Messy Bonnie Raitt would have caught on to that right away. La Madison, the concert industry has faltered because of marketing that is no longer targeted enough. Simply putting tickets up on line at Ticketron etc. won't work any longer in a market that has become super-saturated with touring shows. The shows themselves have run up against a ceiling of extravagant overhead costs. And mostly it is the mid-level productions that can't make it...

Awwwww David... I certainly don't ever want to lose touch with you again either. I am very eager to hear more stories. That post was perfect because I used to always joke at the time-- with Greer and Hapi in particular-- that we should put up a card table at Port Authority bus terminal, right next to where those blue robed nuns used to stand, to welcome America's children into our wicked web. Little did I know that Ms. Langkton actually was doing that. I have one of Greer's few...

????? Eve Ensler of the Vagina Monologues is not a 'socialite'... she is a very productive writer, artist and activist who works very, very hard for lesbian and Transgender politics as well as the rights of women! Given the general apathy for these issues, it's a good thing when entertainers like actors and other 'stars' come out for these issues. I don't think their efforts should be down-graded. Here is the article you mentioned http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/12/arts/12ensl.html "That...

And yes, Mr. Joe, the Rosa von Praunheim film! Isn't it where David's mouth gets sewn up? (that was simulated BTW.) Also in the film is the great Emilio Cubeiro... My two faves are her 11 Minute version of Isn't It A Pity on the Emergency Ward LP and the live version of Westwind on the Black Gold LP. The early 70's RCA stuff is excellent! Seeing Kabuki Starshine perform Isn't It A Pity at PS122 for (I think) the Marsha P Johnson Story blew my mind. And then there's her Bee Gees covers - don't get me started! I was lucky enough to see her last performance in NYC at Carnegie Hall - she was frail and while the house was hooting and stomping for an encore,...

Connie was Exitte long enough to perform at "Whispers" once or twice under that name, though we started calling her Exeunt to be very Shakepearean. That was when we injected a dose of glamour into our campy, deconstructed surroundings and were secretly worshiping Matthew and his "Beauties" from afar. And well we were-- they were incomparable. Re: Opening "The Box" - Formerly "When the party bombs"
This is precisely what Miss Webb was reporting on today after a horrid experience last night at The Box. She went to see Rose Wood perform, yet came away from the whole experience depressed and enraged. Squeezed in with wall-to-wall portfoliophiles and the women who love them; all screeching at the "freaks" on stage ("Oooooh, look! It's really a man!"), vapid and self-centered steamrollers who literally knocked her out of the way to get what they wanted, lacking respect or consideration for...

Re: Dean Johnson - Death of a Legendary Legend
Deans death has hit me very hard even though I haven't even seen him for years. I used to know him enough to say "Hi Dean" and have a brief conversation with him. I was a teenager when I met him, and all the regulars at The Pyramid. These memories are so concrete that it is hard for me to picture anyone from that time period in any other context. I adored them all when I was kid. I worshipped them and I considered them my parents as ridiculous as it sounds. No one understands either unless...

Re: Dean Johnson - Death of a Legendary Legend
I've been very disturbed by all of this since my friend Roger DeGennaro, a Howl festival organizer, told me about Dean's death last night. So I must, like all of you, share my memories of Dean in order to ease the sadness I feel. I met Dean when he was doorman at the Boybar back in 1983. You couldn't NOT notice him, with that too-tall, lanky frame and basso profundo voice (he could have been the bastard son of Living Theater co-founder Julian Beck!)--not to mention his cutting wit and...

To everyone posting photos and articles: Thanks - i lost all my Dean mementos, writings, and music in a house fire a while back. I especially love joe's snapshots of dean reading at the Filth series. Seeing pics of him sharing his literary and peculiar genius is moving, since I never saw Dean reach that level of expression in the flesh. And I so wish I had, being a wordperson...

Beth- I for one would love to see the rock n roll fag bar memorial have Miss Viva giving us a pagan invocation. I'd love to see Joey Arias and other artists who knew and loved Dean perform his songs live with the band- and make them their own. Some live readings, DJ Tennessee and more. And it will need an emcee who can hold it all together.

I really loved the sharing of "Dean stories" at the rapture memorial. I would love to hear more at this larger memorial. Somehow, laughing at dean's antics or witty sayings made it feel like he was still in the room. And I would love to see the Duelling Bankheads perform either Fuck You or Coco Chanel.
