i have so many favorie themes-i guess after 10 years we must of had over 500 themes-some i don't remember -and often i didn't see all the shows as i was at the door. sid lives was one of my favories with amanda lepores astounding performance-and johny tingle and jenny genocide as sid and nancy.the witches of the east village with clark, art and eve as the spice girls was a memorable moment.marties shoe dance always made me come off the door to watch the show!!! others i remember fondly bowie...

Re: BURNING MAN

goblin73 ·
burning man is fabulous. it can renew my faith in humanity. and as a "ritual junkie" i'm so into the neo-pagan/cyber-shamanic aspect of the whole effigy burning in the desert thang. (not to mention the mind-expanding psychedelics!!) i love looking out over "the playa" and fantasizing about a colony on the moon that would be just like Black Rock City. THOUSANDS of people all co-existing, all giving one another the freedom to create and live in their own realities, and LOTS OF ART!! it blows...

Re: Miss Understood's Hi from Thailand

Have you ever noticed how bad travel articles in magazines an newspapers are? They are all formatted around overpriced packages. Even here, if you pick up a free (advertiser funded) tourist guide or map, it is full of listings for things that are absurdly overpriced for what things cost here. This place is so gorgeous that there's not much more the pricey places can offer you. You don't need a pool with a crystal clear ocean in front of you! A simple, lovely, Gilliganesque bungalow is about...

Re: Can We Build a Less Prejudiced TG Sense of Community?

Stacy Amber ·
When the umbrella term "transgender" started to encompass everyone on the Benjamin scale, from 1 to 6, I welcomed it. I remember how the NYC Drag Queens fought to not be included under that term at Stonewall 25, in order to have a separate marching contingent from Transgender. I was saddened by that at the time, but now have more understanding. There is really very little that an active transsexual (I make that distinction as I have encountered so many on the net that call themselves...

I'm still spinning from the 10,000 miles I must have traveled in the last 24 hours. So I thought I would try to express some of the strange visions in my head. After driving a van for 10 hours straight, through the desert, buzzing on double shots of espresso and listening to bad radio so as not to drive off the road and into the abyss of darkness, I finally arrived in LA at 3 am. Took a plane at 3 pm and now I'm back in NYC. I'm sure Goblin will have many posts soon, but I thought I would...

Re: The Club Creatures - Zazoo & Satori

TonyaKnudsen ·
No! A dancefloor is everybody's always!!! And I did love watching it--you two running off!! You couldn't pay people to look so jarred!! And the faux pas is mine. The theory was to make an interactive imprmptu video. The problem (well technically there were several glitches) but the biggest being -- the music is not yet appropriate for the dance floor, perhaps even to ears. If it was, people wouldn't have been so confused. But I got through it and had to laugh myself at the mockery I made.

Congrats on the glossy, glam coverage. Making the cover really does feel good and strengthens the resolve that doing what you do is really worth doing. I have been thinking of you two for about 16 hours now. Ran across this "new band" I'm utterly living for ... [and the CDs finally arrived in the post yesterday -- yes ordered off amazon] but the original electroclash-stylings, cunty-cunty-CUNTY bass riffs, the something calling back to Duran Duran as well as to more modern popular goth acts...

I'm back Y'all Beltaine goes down as one of the most beautiful on record. Hush agrees, it was one of the most stunning. More sun then you could ask for, almost too much at times. I love that day. This year there was no DJ set up , it was decided to just use drums and no electronics. I must say that it made everything clearer somehow. Every year I am amazed at the spectacle that is created. The magic that can be evoked. After all the ribbons had been twisted around the pole and the drums were...

Wow, have I ever been out of the loop. Here's an alleged trend that I have never - ever - heard of before, and what's more, I can't say that I've even noticed many (any?) of these gals around town. As a recovering goth, I'm appalled at my own ignorance. Where ARE they hiding in NYC? March 13, 2005 Gothic Lolitas: Demure vs. Dominatrix By LAURA M. HOLSON New York Times IT did not take long for Twinkle Lam to realize that she had a problem on her hands. For the past 10 months the 23-year-old...

Madgie, As far as I knew, this phenomeon in dressing was pretty well restricted to the Japanese. I am a big fan of Malice Mizer... their fan-base is famous for the overdressing... http://www.malice-mizer.co.jp/top.html This is a better link http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Studios/3507/malice.html They stopped recording in 1990 but the legend lives on. One of their many lead singers, GACKT, has a gorgeous voice and might still have a solo career. F-Major tried very hard to get the more severe...

Ask Maki about the Goth Bible, her sister is involved with a similar publication. La Madison, you are a born Gothic L prospect. Only about a third of the attendees at any Goth club here are costumed and only the hard core regulars really do a tough look. Among that there is a fair portion of GL's but seldom anyone really approaching the all out Harajuku style. It appears to me to actually be a kind of 'medium' -think like an art medium, paint, photography, etc.- where androgyny can be...

Gosh Chi Chi...who has egg on his face now? I'm even more out of the loop than imagined. If this has been percolating for so long, I wonder why we haven't seen more popping up here. I wandered into Batcave a few weeks ago and it was empty. The people who did show were were totally lame. Talk about a long death. I hear there's a new party on Sundays that was not meant to be a goth night, but that's what it's become...supposed to be really good. Trying to remember where...

Empress, I consider it an honour to join this effort in a magical city with some of my most favourite people. Just a few questions after checking out hotel possibilities online. Would the french quarter be the best place to be located or the hotel district. Sorry if I am unclear, where the parades seem to go? Are there ample taxis at and back to the airport or is it best to book transportation to and from in advance? And just a clarification of the "suggested dress" would help this...

Re: Wanted: Memories Of The Pyramid Club, 1981-1985

Yvonne ·
I look foward to reading this book on the early Pyramid years. I went to the Pyramid during these years. I only have a comp flyer from those years, it's from 84 and says something about a mud wrestling championship between Ethyl Eichelberger and Ranting Tanya Ransom. I didn't think the music went too much into new wave, well not in the same sense as the Ritz new wave music was. I always found the music at the Pyramid some of the best, there was always songs that I never heard that I would...

She was not allowed to be played OR allowed into the club. We did make an exception once though. It was a "Night Of A Thousand Stevies". Kitty came up to me and said, "Madonnna is outside and wants to come in. Should I let her in Daddy?" I told her, "Why not. What's she going to do, grow her hair long and become a witchy goth in flowing dresses?" So we let her in.

There's A Middle-Eastern, I think he was Iranian, comedian I saw once on BBC America, very funny, he was familiar with the kids who dance to Morrissey, and did the goth dance too and sang a bit of Morrissey, it was really funny. Anyone who can laugh at his own culture and Western culture gets a shout-out from me and a round of appaluse (applaudes in a circle)

American radio is shit anyways, unless you have XM Radio or some equivalent thereof. Also too many DJs (not the Soulwax guys)play one type of music and one type of music only. Unfortunately I wasn't there at the Garage (born in the wrong decade I guess!) By the way those 2 many Djs discs are mad! Talk about types of music that don't go together! I mean mad in a good way. New Order and the Clash are punk and they aren't. the Clash became more mainstream as they dragged on and New Order was...

I wasn't planning on crying today...but when I heard this news, the tears pretty much took over. This is so very sad, and my heart goes out to everyone in Deans immediate circle of friends and family. Dean was a very special and wonderful person. Although he wasn't someone I spoke with on a daily basis, I was honored to call him a friend. He was without a doubt, one of the nicest, most sincere people in the downtown "scene". I first learned of his exsistance in the Eighties, the same way...
