Such a choice idea. I think there needs to be a manifestation on the corner of Washington and W. 14th too !

Re: The Palladium
I know I said that I never liked The Palladium but that's not really true. I didn't like the "trying to pretend it's Studio 54" thing that permiated the first year or so. The Steve & Ian "VIP room to nowhere" sort of thing. (If it wasn't for Haoui Montaug running the door it would have been a TOTAL nightmare) but... I DJ'd there for many years and have to say there were some brilliant things about the place too. The tech for instance -lights, video, staging etc. was the best I've ever...

What a visual/aural/sensory overload was ARCADIA! opening night - there was so much to take in I think it will take a while to process. First, congrats in order to TonyaKnudsen for dreaming up the whole thing and working so many months to make it happen. Secondly, to my three co-producers Jade Barbee, Derrick and Mia I have nothing but admiration for the heaps of time and energy that you put into the process. My critical-eyed Emperor said that it is the best-hung show he's ever seen at CB's,...

Tarot was such an inspired theme, and you all took it to places where I didn't know it could go! I wish I had got there in time for the 1st set. I especially liked the ladies of the Wheel of Fortune for their shambling goof-ball antics, their glitter, their costume accident & their mantra of "Repetition is a form of change." True! and it gave me insight into that card that I didn't have before. Also, Hattie Hathaway's devil routine & I didn't catch the name of the Wednesday Addamsy...

Chi Chi, thank-you so much for putting your confidence in me, when we started, you probably thought I could do anything, and (while I'm not saying that's not true) I know I may have shocked you with just what minor setbacks proved to show what...

LUXURY LAPPING: Revenge of the Titty Bars? A resurgence of name brand Las Vegas-style strip bars in midtown seems to be signaling a new era of "respectability" for the titty-twirlers and for New York. Not quite as sleazy as their Times Square predecessors, these new clubs are sleeker, bigger and more corporate in their approach, but it beats having no titty bars at all. Does this mean the Big Apple's sphincter is finally loosening again after so many years of Guiliani's attacks? Or is the...

Welcome to our community, David! OMG, I had forgotten about the Pink Flloyd massacre! What was the song? My memory comes and goes... I don't think there was a single person on our staff who didn't slap on a face, slip into something pretty and gallop across that stage... especially the tech boys like yourself.

Well you all were the best looking tech staff on the planet-- what did you expect? But seriously, everyone really loved you guys because you could take a piece of gaffers tape, a bit of mylar, a clip light, and a bent bobby pin from Bunny's wig and run a show that was technically flawless ! BTW I emailed you privately, Dana, I hope you check your Yahoo! account.

Excuse the gift for gabbing (i'll be good) It's nice to know.....that however small our "tech budget" was ..we were able to present a "multi media event" nightly using 'cardboard, broken 8mm & slide projectors, "a sealed beam pin spot" as a followspot and 3 mirror balls. I was shocked to see that here in China ... they are clueless to "inventive ideas" The clubs i've worked at here don't have professional staff. They press one button and the lights never stop. Speaking of "JOHN SEX" (as they were very close friends anyway and i'm sure she won't mind this.) As a pyramid tech. Hatches would on ocassion GIVE the tech crew a bunch of "cassette tapes" from bands or acts that would NOT be performing at PYRAMID. I often took these tapes and "recorded live shows" One of which is a fantastic "john sex show & band" along with all the usual "audience comments" and i believe WENDY does make it on stage for a tune or 2. Hey Dana, sorry I haven't been on to say hi. The tech at Pyramid was amazing. You and David Crocker worked Miracles with NOTHING! I learned a lot from you guys. (I'm totally serious!) When we built JACKIE 60 and MOTHER, The Pyramid Club was our template. Especially in terms of staging, lights and sound. JACKIE 60 was always about performance (in a bathroom or on stage). Sometimes there were no working toilets but there were ALWAYS lights on stage. I remember doing sound checks with you guys...

I was never a "BITCH" to you guys because I wanted access to the sacred "Tech Room". It wasn't much to look at but the vibes alone from that room could knock you out. If I remember correctly you guys had a key or a lock or something that kept EVERYONE out. It was genius. Forget about the club, tell us about "The Tech Room"! I bet Hattie never saw the inside of it! This is a pic I took of International Chrysis in 1986.

I spent loads of time in the DJ booth...how come noone has yet to mention Ivan? ....and I spent time propped on the beer boxes next to the ice machine in the wait station, where Stephan named me "Queen of the May." I screamed when songs I liked came on. I mean high piercing screamed- like the girl in that "dont need this pressure"...

Near the end of producing Dominatrix with Ken Lockie (co-producer) and Stuart Arbright (the "band"), Ivan brought another performer to Ken, fresh from the Pyramid stage and the tech room to boot. And that was me. Ken and Ivan produced my 2 song "development deal" with Geffen's money. Through Ken Lockie I met one of my heroes, Keith Levene of Public Image Ltd. He later borrowed a mixer of mine. Ivan also produced the English language remake of Les Rita Mitsouko's "Marcia Baila". The...

daddy, you wanted glimpses of the inside of the tech room? I can give 'em . But be warned, it was usually pretty normal in there. Sometimes I'd walk in on one of the, uh, senior staff sniffing drugs. I'd walk in sometimes and the lighting/stage person (me: sound) would have two little piles of coke and direct me to sniff them. Much later we we talked about it and I realized this was meant to cut any motivation I might have to tattle. I did have sex in there once or twice. I guess overall it...

I remember the tech phone to the dj booth that was fixed to the stairs to the stage . . . and what a thrill it was the first time (and everytime, I guess) that I picked it up. How a screw up like me ended up being the emcee . . . that had a lot to do with Mark Oates. But that phone ringing meant "Showtime" Finally in the "Cuchifritos" or "Hapi's BackDoor" days (daze - it's all a grey (gardens) blur) the tech-phone broke and no one was there who could or cared to fix it. Probably someone...

Thanks to everyone who came out - and turned it out - so splendidly last night for NOTS 17. Transitions are always difficult and the night was not without its glitches, but overall it seemed like a step up. The tech staff - indeed the entire staff - of Hiro was really on point, and that helped so much. Performance high points pour moi? Justin Bond tore the roof off, and Nicole Nicks' farewell performance to "Edge of Seventeen" could not have been more superb. The tryptch of heavy hitters...

Well, I've been talking to LOTS of NOTS people and everyone seems to like The HIRO Ballroom for Stevie. Yes, the drink prices are a little higher and the bartenders were not my favorite bartenders in the world... but in general the staff, tech, dressing rooms and the shear size of the space makes it a winner. No place will be perfect but people seemed to think this was a step up for NOTS. Personally, I like it when you cram 800 people in a room that holds 200 people but that's just me.
