Johnny Cash, one of country music's most iconic figures, has died at the age of 71. Cash died at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, "due to complications from diabetes, which resulted in respiratory failure", said Lou Robin, his manager. The announcement shocked fans, who had been relieved to hear that Cash had been released from hospital on Tuesday after three weeks of treatment for an inflammation of the pancreas. Although Cash had been hospitalised frequently over the past several...

Re: DAVID BOWIE

I was just reading the posts in this category, and noticed the vast majority speak only of Davids more recent work and ignore his stuff from the early 1970's, which I consider his most inspired work (Space Oddity; The Man Who Sold the World; Hunky Dory; The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars; Aladin Sane). David Bowie has been a major influence on my life. Like many artists, it is difficult for those who weren't around when the artist first began influencing music to...

All I have as far as news is this: Boy George pleads innocence over drugs charge The star says he'll fight Boy George's lawyer says the star is innocent and will fight charges of drug possession. The Eighties megastar was arrested on October 7 last year after police allegedly found cocaine at his apartment in New York when they responded to a burglary call. Obviously Mr. O'Dowd has a great lawyer and the police case must have been shakey on some points. I always said the coke was the cops' to begin with. I was starting to miss everyone's sightings and stories from local clubland about his presence here so it is good that he is talking about coming back soon. Cheers! ________________________________________________ From BBC News today: Boy George cocaine charge dropped Singer Boy George has had a charge of possessing cocaine dropped by a New...

Gene Pitney, 65, American songwriter, found dead in hotel room in Cardiff, Wales. A Hartford, CT native, Pitney was the composer of "Town Without Pity", "He's a Rebel", "Hello Mary Lou" among many other seminal early rock 'n roll songs. His groundbreaking 1963 song, "Mecca" featured the Indian sitar two full years before the Beatles began exploring the use of that instrument. Rock on, Rockville Rocket!

Good morning Chi Chi! The last time Lou and I were in New Orleans was New Year's Eve, 2006. We left not knowing when we'd be able to return again, vacation dollars being in high demand, and all. It seems we simply do not function well if we are not in the throes of planning a Quarter trip. We've been planning the Mardi Gras Version of Getting to Know Our Past since July! We're staying at Hotel Provincial (again!), arriving on the 18th and staying through the 23rd. See you then!

It's official......there's no living with me. This always happens when a vacation draws near. Add to the calendar winding down the fact that on New Year's eve, the guys from Preservation Hall Jazz Band dedicated a song to Lou and I because we told them we were headed down to their club for Mardi Gras. Our masks came in the mail the other day. I just spent a hundred and forty bucks on panties. I have 30 dollars worth of loose rhinestones and eyelash glue. I've made more gumbo in the last...

There's precious little of Andy Warhol on YouTube, strangely enough. Who's hoarding all those clips of Andy at the WWF with Cyndi Lauper when she went through her wrestling phase? Anyone remember Wendy Richter, The Fabulous Moolah and Lou Albano? MTV covered the matches extensively around 1985, and Andy would wander in and out of locker rooms, matches, talk to the wrestlers, etc., always seemed to be hovering. Someone has to dig those out. Meanwhile, if you're hungry for Andy, this is fun.

Not this year...I just started a new job. You're looking at the executive chef of the New York Stock Exchange, baby.. However, I'd have fits of withdrawal if I didn't get to the quarter at least once a year. Lou and I are going for the French Quarter Festival in April. I am addicted to the Earth Cam which is showing all different balconies . We're having a Mardi Gras feast here at home this evening. Laissez le bon temp roule!
