http://www.thebodyofart.comFor the last three years, Dr. Sketchy's has been the ultimate in alternative
life-drawing. The event combines cabaret and art school, and with branches from
Paris to Tokyo, Dr. Sketchy's has become the largest chain of drawing classes in
the world. Now, Sketchy's is joining forces with America's most notorious
underground artists.
At a Dr. Sketchy's class, artists draw glamorous, scantily constumed
underground performers, compete in contests, and win booze and prizes. Sessions
are hosted by artist Molly Crabapple.
On February 14th, we're launching our Dr. Sketchy's ArtStar series. Dr.
Sketchy's will treat attendees to sessions styled after some of the county's
most talented and infamous underground artists. Famed street artist Ron English
(whose work has been featured in Morgan Spurlock's Supersize Me, and is shown
from Hollywood to Hong Kong) will be our first guest artist.
Sketchers will be treated to a trip inside Ron English's imagination. English
is known for his surreal, scathing dissection of advertising culture. Burlesque
queen Amber Ray will pose as Cathy Cowgirl, English's bovine pinup girl, in a
set styled after his pop surrealist paintings. The music is curated by English,
and he will be appearing in person to sign copies of his books.
