Queer Rising is a grassroots organization, completely run by volunteers and supported through individual contributions. Any and all financial support helps finance actions to demand full equality for all queer people.
Formed in the Winter of 2009, Queer Rising’s mission is to demand queer rights using nonviolent direct action. Last month, Queer Rising celebrated its one year anniversary. Tonight’s concert is a show of gratitude and intended to provide further support for Queer Rising’s work that keeps the LGBTQI community informed of actions that often include civil disobedience actions; for weekly meetings to strategize and share information; for attending and carrying out actions; and for sharing events, videos, and as many means possible to demand for full equality NOW.
This has been a very busy year for Queer Rising. Highlights of 2010’s Queer Rising agenda accomplishments include crashing the 2009 Christmas party of former-NYS Senator Hiram Monserrate; MLK Day Action; National Freedom to Marry Day in NYC (resulting in QR members’ arrests); shutting down US Armed Forces Offices in Times Square (DADT protest); crashing Senator Addabbo's Fundraising Party; exposing bigotry of Senators Sampson, Ruben Diaz, Sr. and funders in "Bigot Gala”; Night March Against Hate Crimes; a Times Square Love-In; and a rally against religious bigotry, “In God's Name: Hate is the Abomination.”
