Reading For Filth... Naked Again!
At The Woodshop
24 Ninth Avenue, 5th Floor
$5 cover

Another ALL NAKED Reading For Filth!

Tonight! Everyone's favorite dirty-jocked rent boy, an arresting visual artist, the subject of a classic documentary, a Fringe Fest fave, and New York's latest performance art Force Of Nature!

On Saturday, June 28th, the folks from Rapture present another edition of their long-running and acclaimed queer literary series where both budding young and well-seasoned pornographers will be bearing both their bodies and their souls for their art in another all-naked edition of Reading For Filth. Audience members may also check their clothing and go bare if they so choose.

The evening also marks the 25th Anniversary of the often-maligned William Friedkin cinematic period piece, Cruising, which includes scenes shot in the very loft where the readings will take place. Do you think Karen Allen will be in attendance?

Starring: Dominic Cloutier, Dominick, Mark Sam Rosenthal, Jack Doroshow (aka Flawless Sabrina), and Amber Martin.

By Subway: A, C, E, L train to 14th Street/8th Avenue

A Rapturous Rebirth... Heavy/Filth At Mr. Black!

Friday August 8th, 8-10 PM

Starring Basil Twist, Trina Rose, Amber Martin, LaJohn Joseph & AJ Goodrich
Hosted by Glenn Marla & Hattie Hathaway
Music by Baby K
$5 Admission
F, N, R, V, W to 23 Street

For over a year, Rapture Café & Books, located in New York's East Village, was an oasis of colorful creative expression and memorably literate performance in a city that was supposed to never sleep. Since Rapture has now closed, we've decided to move two of our most critically acclaimed events to an early slot at what is swiftly becoming New York City's most talked about underground nightclub, Mr Black.

Beginning on August 8th, Reading For Filth, the extremely dirty queer literary series originally co-curated by the late Dean Johnson, and Heavy, Glenn Marla's monthly cavalcade of cutting-edge performance art will be joining forces for the monthly event Heavy/Filth on the already-legendary upstairs stage of Mr Black at 27 West 24th Street, between Sixth Avenue and Broadway, from 8 till 10PM.

The stellar lineup for the premiere edition of Heavy/Filth includes the puppet wizardry of Basil Twist, the incredible Miss Trina Rose, The award-winning chops of Amber Martin, the brilliant gender-provocateur LaJohn Joseph, the romantic pornography of A.J. Goodrich, and much, much more.

The event will be hosted by Glenn Marla & Hattie Hathaway.

The HOWL! Festival and More Rapture Events!

"Holy the groaning saxophone! Holy the bop
apocalypse! Holy the jazz bands marijuana
hipsters peace & junk & dreams!"

"Holy the supernatural extra brilliant intelligent
kindness of the soul!"

--Allen Ginsberg, "Footnote to Howl," Berkley, 1955

The HOWL! Festival, which began in 2002and was named after Allen Ginsberg's groundbreaking 1955 poem, Howl, celebrates the East Village and Lower East Side's role as a preeminent locus of culture, with signature events like the group reading of the Ginsberg poem itself, and ART AROUND THE PARK. Centered in Tompkins Square Park, the festival attracts more than 100,000 visitors to the clubs, galleries, parks, streets, and theaters of Manhattan's Lower East Side.
The majority of our Rapture Events throughout the year are only just getting started when the sun has gone down and many people have turned in for the evening. The mostly daylight Festival gives many of us the opportunity to present our work to an audience that would not normally be able to see us. And that it's all free-of-charge. A couple of the reasons we are extremely happy to participate in HOWL! again this year.

The Cockettes' 'Pearls Over Shanghai'
Featuring Hattie Hathaway
The HOWL! Festival
Tompkins Square Park
South Stage
Free Admission

Legend has it that when the Cockettes-- the seminal early 1970's pan-sexual San Francisco drag performance troupe-- came to New York to debut their over-the-top campfest "Pearls Over Shanghai" for Manhattan's underground elite nearly 35 years ago, they BOMBED in a big way.
This evening, the surviving members, sans most, if not all, of the illicit substances they were known to enjoy for stagework back then, return to the New York to try it again.
Hattie Hathaway will make a guest appearance as Petrushka, the mysterious White Russian femme-fatale... a role originally played to the hilt by the late disco legend, Sylvester. Expect lavish costumes, show-stopping numbers, glitz and glitter in this gender-twisting send-up of Golden Age Hollywood Musicals. Think: Busby Berkeley meets Grand Hotel produced by Mike Todd.

Well, today's activities were a bit of a wash (thanks in part to Hurricane Hanna Montana!). Lovely to see some gorgeous faces who turned out for StoryTelling: Chris Tanner, Pearl, Brandon Olson, Jimmy Paul, Basil Twist, Rami, all milling about just before the heavens opened up!

Word has it that this evening's Cockettes in the Park has also been cancelled due to the Heavens...

See everyone tomorrow!

Rapture Events Presents 'Reading For Fist,' and more!

Reading For Fist... All Naked!
At The Woodshop
24 Ninth Avenue, 5th Floor
$5 cover
Subway: A, C, E, L train to 14th Street/8th Avenue

In honor of the yearly kinky festival of "brew and bawd", Octoberfist!, we are proud to bring you another ALL NAKED Reading For Filth... In fact we're going to be so anally-oriented tonight, that we'll be calling it "Reading For Fist!"

Tonight: Everyone's favorite fist-for-rent, the notorious Egg Man, the gals from Portland's House Of CUNT, a NYC go go legend and a budding porn star!

On Saturday,
October 11th, the folks from Rapture present another edition of their long-running and acclaimed queer literary series where both budding young and well-seasoned pornographers will be bearing their bodies and their souls for their art in this all-naked edition of Reading For Filth. Audience members may also check their clothing and go bare as they dare... if they so choose.

Starring: Dominick, Flowryder, Mr. Joe, Rosie D. (AKA the Egg Man), and Amber Martin & Kaetlin Kennedy (Co-founders of Portland's House Of CUNT.)

Don't forget, the producers of the annual Octoberfist! have combed every village in the German hinterlands from the Black Forest to the Bavarian Alps in order to present to US audiences the only authentic Teutonic harvest festival in North America. Rolling out the barrels, brewing up the hops, and donning unwieldy colorful folk costumes was never so much fun before. And of course, expect the phrase "shaking hands with the baby" to be redefined in a whole new and literary way tonight!

And Finally...Doin' It to Obama! Envisioning the new Black President...

by Joe Birdsong

As what appears to be the most important election of our time draws near, a friend recently suggested that if we want to see an Obama presidency, we should envision it as a reality. In a more intimate moment, a lover and I began role-playing that President Obama was in the bed with us, his big schlong banging away, getting hot and sweaty as the good times rolled. The energy that was raised by bringing Barack Obama into the bedroom was amazing! I hereby ask that my dear readers, bring Barack (and/or Michelle, if you please) to the back door! It's good for the country; it's good for the soul; it's good for the hole! And don't forget to vote!

Motherboards Clique & Dragstars please join me this evening at Hattie's Joint (aka Section 8)! Anytime from 8pm until the sky falls - in a few short weeks I'll be heading out west (Jackie Bigelow wants a fix and promised to make it "worth my while," ahem...). So I'll be wintering in the desert, but before I go I've been asked to throw myself a Bon Voyage soiree. Would love to see your gorgeous faces this evening. 218 Avenue A (13/14).
This just in. Um...hatches?
