Catch the film documentary that is really an homage to Berlin. Totally great because it is mostly told by Berlin himself, with not too much commentary by others like John Waters, etc. The film is on a limited run in the city now.
Every single homoerotic image of a cruiser you ever see nowadays cops to Berlin's iconic self portraits created over a period of maybe twenty years. I'm sure some denizens of these boards made his acquaintance over the years.
The film has loads of history from the 70's up to the present. But mostly what is great is that Berlin shows himself to be a very easygoing free spirit with an incredibly powerful sense of the erotic and a dauntingly independent sexuality. Someone who never bought in to a media-based celebrity, who was rabidly creative, and lived the life as totally as anyone could.
