A Women Center Stage 2013 Festival Event:

 

Folk poems from mostly illiterate Pashtun women who sing and speak about drones, war, sex, rage, and love in this ancient form with very modern content, read by Afghan women living in the tri-state area and collected by award-winning American journalist and poet Eliza Griswold. Featured readers will include internationally recognized, award-winning Afghan poet Alaha Ahrar.  Followed by a screening of the short film Snake by Irish filmmaker/photographer Seamus Murphy. 

Presented in partnership with Poetry Magazine, the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, and the Afghan Women’s Writing Project.
