Going to be a great theme for 2011! I think Jon Stiers sent you a line about possibly performing - he rocks. Looking forward to see him entrancing the crowd with his voice and piano skills. Can we get Brook Alyson's butt here this year?

Re: Party Monster - Michael Alig
You did not really mean to imply that if you're under the influence of some chemical it somehow excuses your actions criminal or otherwise. As to the horrible acts shown in movies in this case it was a real person and a real crime and it is being turned into a sideshow by the film makers. Why don't they just call the film "MaGILA Monster", And add a light hearted twist of whimsey to the whole affair.

Re: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory(c'mon! you knew i would eventually make this thread)
In general I am not in favor of this movie being remade, but if a remake is in the works I think Tim Burton is the ideal director to do it. He has such a vivid imagination, and he could put his own whole twist on the story that us fans of the original might love. Edward Scissorhands was genius. I agree that casting is key -- especially with the kids. The whole reason the original child actor playing Charlie was so effective was that he was sympathetic but not too "cutesy" in that annoying...

Re: BEWITCHED
The sexual edge sums up the major difference between Jeannie and Bewitched. I Dream of Jeannie had the psychedlic/free love 60s feel running through everything with Jeannie and Major Nelson basically living in sin (that is, until they got married later in the series) and Jeannie playing a thinly veiled sex slave with her cleavage and bimbo persona. She called her man "master", wore more provacative outfits and obediently retreated to her bottle when Major Nelson had had enough. Their...

Re: My Night of 1000 Stevies 14 review
Dear Lord, what controversy! Sorry, Jenny, my dear, anything connected with drag never starts early; and that goes double for avant guard drag. In fact for us aging hipsters an early night (starting around midnight) is a blessing. Thank you Johnny and Chi Chi, and all the performers, for a wonderful night. I'm crestfallen that I missed Basil Twist while outside smoking and flirting with lovely 20-year-old boys and girls with whom, alas, I'll never sleep. There were many genuine Stevie Nicks...

Re: Farewell Charming Old New York
Above the Trendy, the Down and Out By ALAN FEUER NY Times April 7, 2005 Knock at Room 18 on the fourth floor of 559 West 22nd Street and an old man in a watch cap stumbles to the door. "What am I doing here?" he asks, answering the question with a question. "I'm dying here," he says. His name is George Ullrich and, according to his own account, he has been dying here for almost 30 years. He lives in a small room, 10 feet deep by 10 feet wide, and in rooms all down the hallway, a piece of the...

Re: Grey Gardens At Irving Plaza
OK, I'll try. "Grey Gardens" was basically Hattie Hathaway (Hatches) and my thing. Hattie thought of the name (Hattie also named "Mother" BTW, it came to her in a wet dream about Jimi Hendrix but that's another story) It was every Saturday night at Irving Plaza, after the rock shows ended. The Irving Plaza staff (who were incredible) cleared out the drunk college kids faster than one of Messy Bonnie's farts. And in about 20 minutes we (about 15 people) transformed the theater into this eery,...

Re: Grey Gardens: The Musical?
i saw a staged reading of this musical a couple days ago. it was pretty amazing... the trick is that the nostalgic fucked up noel coward early bouvier-esque first act shows a 40's era doomed engagement party (little edie to joe kennedy)that mom innocently sabotages with her bohemian antics. you can just feel the future spiraling down as the vines spiral up round grey gardens. the delapidated second act is more of a bizarre tone poem... little edie sings a heartbreaking song 'around the...

I was just awake at like three am S'tan, when the post went up on the Times. I like the hoax juju completely too. And anyone who has ever written even a bad shopping list knows anything between two covers is a STORY. And yes, people will identify with something when they 'hear' it speaking to them in what they previously felt was their experiential isolation, feeling affirmed is what every fan feels. But I really like the hoax, it shows out people's foibles so bad. I'm not sure the AIDs tip...

Re: Mardi Gras in New Orleans 06: Krewe York
The weather was so perfect. The Saint Anne's parade was one of the largest, longest, and slowest moving versions of its incarnation ever, I'm told by oldtimers. The city's spirit was absolutely stellar. The Krewe York contingent got endless tribute by way of being a photographer-magnet and other revellers coming up close to scope the group out at length. Mr. Twist was highly popular, especially after the first several blocks when more than half his costume all of a sudden disappeared leaving...

Here is Basil Twist and Editrix Abby Ehman. Sitting on Basil's head is our new friend "Debbie". Debbie was a big hit at the parade as you can imagine. (Don't ever march with Basil Twist because he gets stopped every two feet by a fan wanting a picture. It's like going out on the town with... Debbie).

My two faves... 1) "Feeling Good" The BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT Basil Twist used this song as the theme for "Jackie's Baby". Picture it: The "Rosemary's Baby Carriage" on stage. "Feeling Good" starts and out crawls "Jackie's Baby" who does this totally demonic dance number to it. Her eyes light up red, she sprouts devil wings and flys away. If you can't picture it don't worry, it is highly featured in the Jackie 60 Movie. Now if we can just get the rights to the song. But hey, how...

Re: Dean Johnson - Death of a Legendary Legend
Tonight's event still leaves me speechless. Beth, I am deeply grateful to you; the love with which the Johnson family supported Dean fuelled this gorgeous creature, who has made this world such an incredibly magical place for the legions of us lucky enough to have found ourselves in his orbit.
