Re: 57 Varieties ( Club 57 Remembered)
I think around '81 Club 57 started hosting parties at Irving Plaza. A Ukrainian sponsor/host (Stanley?) would dare the punks to throw beer cans and bottles at him on stage. (They obliged.) I remember the Invaders and Regina and the Red Hots. Whatever happened to Regina Richards? Did Chris Spedding and the B-52s also play here, or was that later in the life of Irving Plaza? Wow--just zoned on Nervus Rex--what about Lauren Agnelli? Where are all the NY Rock babes of yore? cheers to my NYC...

Re: Mardi Gras in New Orleans 06: Krewe York
Hi everyone... Fat Tuesday is just 20 short days away.. Can't wait to see everyone and of course BE IN THAT NUMBER ! +++ Have done some informal polling and decided to hold the informal MOTHERBOARDS meet up on Monday 2/27 (Lundi Gras) at "Zulufest" around 5 PM. This is just before the arrival of the Kings of Zulu and Rex by boat - one of my favorite MG traditions - and right after a free set by the Rebirth Brass Band, a truly brilliant local act. I attach a link about zulufest, it is free...

Re: Mardi Gras in New Orleans 06: Krewe York
Epilogue: Touching, beautiful, joyous, and incredibly well attended – we've walked St. Anne several times before, and seen the crowd reach 1,000, but this was surely 2,000 or more. To do it with friends from New York and Elsewhere and to see old friend meet new friend, my brother smiling again for the first time since "The Thing" (in fact to see almost EVERYONE smiling again)..well, those things are priceless. To finally appear after the five hour march at Canal Street, and have the Rex...

Read this from "The New Yorker" about what France has done for New Orleans -- This is hot too: "The French are offering six-week residencies in France for artists displaced by the flood." NEW ORLEANS POSTCARD CONSULAT D'INFLUENCE by Dan Baum Issue of 2006-03-06 At the corner of Prytania and First Street, in New Orleans, stands a brick mansion with a French tricolor drooping from the gable. Eleven days after the levees failed, last August, heavily armed federal agents were banging on doors...

Re: The Knife "Pass This On"
The Knife recently took home 6 Swedish Grammys and ABBA will tell you that's pretty damn good! We've got "We Share Our Mother's Health" the Rex the Dog remix of "Heartbeats" and "You Take My Breath Away" on heavy rotation durning the after hours portion of our Friday nights here in Cincy. Wow. Thanks for the head up! And it's available on iTunes now. In your opinion, what is the best mix for a dancefloor? Our first guess would be Rex the Dog followed by Booka Shade... However the Booka Shade Remix is "album only" so should we just go out and get a hard copy? XXXOOO S

Re: The Knife "Pass This On"
Bummer, Bookashade Remix won't play for me either on my music server, so I don't know. I really like the Rex the Dog Remix and the Emperor Machine Remix Edit, its got an old school disco vibe. Rex the Dog is probably your best bet, I would guess.

Not to worry AN, I avoid bear bars at all cost unless I am on handholding duties with Babydaddy. Sadly though, no moroccan trip this time. Ok, Daddy I'll explain. For those who don't quite know what it is I do do, I basically do a 1 hour dj set when the doors open, then there is an opening act for 30 mins, then I do about 40 mins more until the band are ready to come on stage. If I am a little elusive about discussing the band it's only because I don't want some idiot coming on here and...

So I'm finally coming out of the haze from the past week. Love Ball was really amazing and was very "loved" up. But I'll back it up a sec to last Wed. My friend Riccardo arrived from London (he's Italian but lives in Uk now). I'll just say that he lives a very chaste life with his husband in Essex but when he goes on holiday the bitch likes to cut loose. Friday night our friend Dj Mily deMori was spinning at Razz so we went by to support her and had a fantastic time dancing in the sweatbox...

Thought you'd enjoy this snippet about the St. Anne parade, explains it well.. Full article at http://www.kreweofsaintanne.org/history.html The site's main page has the updated parade route, but it still has last year's directions. I'll post here in a few days..Remember to look for the signature ribboned hoops if you're in the quarter looking for us.

Well, this is it! The St. Anne parade route is: Good place to meet up with us is Esplanade and Chartres round noon as the parade should be just entering the quarter then. Look for a black parasol with "krewe york" and "new york city" across the back on ribbons and you'll see Daddy and I. Another great place to meet up for late sleepers is Royal and Canal, where St. Anne watches Rex. And there is of course the river, which I am determined to make this year. Seven, basil, st. eve, layard and...

Doesn't Daddy look all Velasquez and all? Here's my report on this year's KREWE YORK. Whenever we're in New Orleans, we wander around dazed with love for all the unique, eternal things and people you find there: The old queen wearing nothing but a jockstrap stumbling home at 10:30 AM on Ash Wednesday, in the Lower Quarter. The new (to us) restaurant we ate in, Muriel's, with its resident "prominent ghost", Pierre Antoine Lepardi Jourdan, who lost the house in 1815, but has been seen there...
