Re: Miss Understood's Hi from Thailand
your travelogues are incredible, missy. they remind me of my trip to thailand and point out to me all the great things i missed. keep on rockin' in the "kinda" free world. when you head up into chang mai, you'll be wooed into hill treks to see these tribal people in their native environs. they're really just human zoos. i was grossly (and i do mean GROSS) disappointed... the akha women were hostile to us when we didn't wanna spend money on their crappy trinkets. they would yank their kids...

Re: Miss Understood's Hi from Thailand
Yeah, I've heard mixed reviews of those Hill trecks. Supposedly the system has been reformed to space those groups from eachother, but there are so many of them I don't know if that's possible. I've been to Chiang Mai twice but I've never done the treck. I did, by car, visit 2 of those human zoo/villages. One was that pushy trinket situation. Then, at the longneck lady place, they just ask a fee before you go in. I think it's a bit more honest and less stressful. Look, they know you want to...

Re: David Wojnarowicz - Artist
Hattie, in April 2002 there was a film festival on DW in the UK, http://www.outuk.com/cgi-bin/llgff/filmdetail.pl?link_ref=81 it seems to me that an exhaustive amount of research was put into getting all these works together for this show, which would entail contacting anyone who might know something about your missing film. I truly believe it is out there for the finding. My gut feeling is that if you were to contact the person who did the research for this show, explain to them who you are...

am still in major shock about this.... I worked with John for many years but actually met him when I was about 16yrs old... He used to come to my house in Liverpool when he came up for the football match (soccer) and my mum used to make him dinner and he for some odd reason hebefriended me. I went on to produce and present at the BBC Radio 1 and was given an small office right next door to the office Peel,Walters and Andy Kershaw all shared in Egton House (BBC) which was no bigger than the...

Aww, Daddy, the Gilded Grape! You just slammed me with a bunch of memories of a gay New York that no longer exists... bars and floors and stages that harkened back to a mysterious verboten subculture that truly was the twilight world of the homosexual (always one of my fave phrases, of course.) I can remember waking up each day, hungry to experience a different aspect of it... would it be the outdoor cruising at The Soldiers & Sailor's monument, the miniscule dancefloor at The Barefoot...

Les Sisters Hathaway... Chi, Sherry and myself portraying (with great prescience in at least one case) ancient, over-the-hill, over-the-top showgirls-- perhaps from Les Folies Bergere... drinking, smoking, enjoying at tootski or two... stumbling, barely lifting their creaking legs, getting caught up in the curtains and scenery, nodding off from time to time... But boy, were they lovely! And the expressions on the audiences faces made it all worthwhile-- astonishment, horror, disgust were...

We were not prepared for how much we'd miss our baby. This morning in Patmos while climbing the hill to the monastary we came upon the very first small dog we have seen in all of Greece. The little thing was exactly Napoleon's size and was eager for us to pet him, which we did. (he was not a stray, he lived in the little souvenir shop where we found him). I almost started balling right then and there. Luckily I had my sunglasses on. From now on I think small 4-day trips might be better for...

Re: But Darling I WAS a punk.
I just find everything so segregated nowerdays. I think it was that turning when black folk in the music industry decided to become gangsters and all about bitches and bling. Which was idolized by white folk in the sticks. I think that was the real downfall on the mix of music and people. Thank God I remember those dub days too. (I moved the Notting Hill at the tail end of that). I miss the lovers rock reggae and the ole school dub.

And don't get me wrong... I'm not saying that she invented this generation (or invented anything for that matter). But she did tune in to it. There were lots of people doing lots of different things in the eighties. Her thing stuck. But she's not the only one. I think Donald Trump is just like her. He tuned in to the zeitgeist. The shameless self promotion, the obsession with celebrity, the whole famous for being famous thing. He's made millions (supposedly) using this glossy TRUMPed up...

Re: RHAPSODY IN PINK Pink Martini Party
It was a very cute party! Pink Martini had a ball (and quite a few pink martinis). Julie Atlas Muz wow'd 'em with her talents as did Jessica Rabbit and Vangeline Domination. Hunter James and Pirate Steve gave gorgeous black tail & top hat go go. The Empress Chi Chi did a reading of her ode to New Orleans, "The Empress Of Royal Street" with Pink Martini trumpet player Gavin Bondy. She dedicated it to Helen Hill who was a close friend of many in the audience.

Re: Dean Johnson - Death of a Legendary Legend
Dean Johnson passed away this week. Details surrounding Dean's death, along with the death of another young man are still uncertain, and an investigation is, as of this writing, still ongoing. I have included details and links about Dean's life below. Dean is survived by his father is Ellis Johnson and his sister is Beth. There is something on Page 6 today. Sadly it says he may have been murdered in DC. You can go to http://www.drudgereport.com scroll down to the Page Six link and read it if you don't have the paper. The poor gentle giant was found with no ID so it took days to identify his body. He was found with another young man. Now I'm really angry. I want to know who did this and why. I don't want to say anything out of line- just read the item. I want to send my love to his family and friends too- know...

Last night during dinner at Bobby's we heard the sirens again and that expression fell upon our faces, like not AGAIN! Luckily, it was a false alarm, however this is really wearing on everyone here. I fear leaving the dog by himself to go to work and everyone has turned on every light possible at night. When I walk the dog late in the evening I feel suspicious of those distant figures in the night and their shadows. It's just weird. Usually when I see someone in the distance I just wonder if...

The Real Big Johnson After my last appearance at Reading for Filth, Dean told me I needed to modulate, and to play to the back of the room. In tribute to Dean I am going to do just that, because you know Dean ALWAYS modulated and ALWAYS played to the back of the room! (Or the back room, as the case may be). I got to the East Village in nineteen eighty-two to attend the Cooper Union; I was a CLUELESS kid from Long Island. By the time I found my way to places like the World, Pyramid, Save the...
